Do You Have a ‘Small Rod’?!

One of the many dumb things that’s resulted from a loss of connection with the natural world is Peta – you know, the “tasty animals” folks. And even though there’s an unwritten rule in outdoor media not to give the Peta morons any press, I’m doing it because I think they’re funny!

(In fact, one of my favorite T-shirts ever is the one with a chick on it that reads “I am not a McNugget.” I would own one would it not entail sending Peta some cash for it.)

Like most things Peta, I really can’t understand the strategy behind its latest “Do anglers have small rods” campaign. Maybe this stuff appeals to Hollywood lobotomy patients or single ladies with 20 cats. Don’t know.

Either way, maybe we need to sic Brett Favre and his cell phone on these people…just to show…you know what I mean.

Oh yeah: The above graphic was for a billboard ad that was supposed to run just before an Australian fly fishing tourney. The billboard was rejected.

Too funny!!!!! As I’ve always said, PETA never has the knowledge of what they are campaigning against.

I have tangled with PETA before. Or at least tried. They hide behind their email addresses, computers, and fax machines. I called them out once before an event I was helping to put on, where there was supposed to be a pig getting chased around for prizes. No one came. They are the kings of press releases. That’s it.

They did show up at least one time at the Classic, some poor shmo dressed up in a giant fish suit in August in Alabama. Passed out and was helped by salt of the earth folks there to see the Classic. Classic….

I remember the PETA presence at the Classic in Pittsburgh with the billboards asking if you’d fish for a dog. I seem to remember a funny little Loudmouth Bass segment involving a little white dog coming out of a livewell…

        Ah…those were the days, Jay.
