With the Elites now at Champlain and the Bass Pro Tour there in about a month, you'll be seeing the "brown or green" posts a bunch by the fishermen. Even tho I think I do recall one time where a multi-dayer there was won with only brown (was there?), usually you have to mix in significant green to git 'er done. Let's see what happens.

Bassin' gear that was in 'Jaws.'
|
|
For real! Watched it last night with my 17-yr-old daughter who'd never seen it before. Here's what I saw – because I'm a bass-head and can't help it...and yep I had to pause the movie to take these shots 🤣 – in order of appearance:
1. Lowrance flasher
|
|
3. Lowrance Fish-Lo-K-Tor (flasher in the green box)
|
|
Shot not from the movie, just so you can see it better:
|
|
Jaws came out in '75, assumin' Lowrance was all there was back then....
|
|
"This year a lot of chances are going my way and I think that's because I let them come to me instead of chasing them down."
|
|
Yep! No question we are, BUT ain't a done deal – here's the 5 hammers behind him:
1. Seth Feider - 602
2. Jason Christie - 554
3. Patrick Walters - 550
4. Chris Johnston - 541
5. Brandon Palaniuk - 541
6. Greg Hackney - 537

"Maybe it does. I don't know. But we're fishermen. That's what we do. We fish."
|
|
My 2c: Figurin' 'em out, that bump on the line, lippin' 'em = pretty much the whole deal. Also messin' around water:
|
|
Here we go with the pink again!
|
|
Been pointing out for years that the Lindner clan has used pink for decades to catch smallies, mostly in MN. I challenge anyone on the planet to have more fishing knowledge than Al Lindner – take his advice to the bank!
The Roboworm color "morning dawn" is pink, at least that's the way it looks to me, and there's a lotta pinkish purplish in some of their best colors.
We know bubblegum floating worms work for largies sometimes, and I believe Jimmy Houston used to fish pink spinnerbaits in muddy/dirty water til...he stopped? Did he stop?
Also think pink was a choice on the 'ol Color-C-Lector?
> I knew a guy who used pink under bridges, said that he felt like it was a good match for the baby birds that hatch and fall in the water under bridges.

Head-scratchin' headlines of the Day.
|
|
Got several so puttin' 'em here:
Is it ever not "up"??
And?? Is this one of those haiku poem deals? If so I dig it big-time....
Pretty sure a tree stump could too...also pretty sure not enough meth addict pee in trout water to have a reason test this whole deal but whatever man!
Little reminder that the whole animal rights movement came from there. Wonder what's next – can't eat 'em?
> ...will mandate that chefs and fishmongers alike dispatch mollusks quickly and humanely by stunning them, instead of dipping them straight into boiling water.
Maybe they think Larry's real? Gotta point out – if he was real, why would he already be red...🤔

|
> Dear Lake Champlain, We've known each other for a long time, I hope we are still friends. Looking forward to spending the next few days together. Sincerely, Rick
😂 love it! Btw Rick has a pet polar bear, which is not surprising to me:

Part of a covid deal requested by the pros. Does this mean John Cox could now be eligible to qualify? Reminder he was DQd from the St Lawrence Elite after fishing the MLF BPT there.
I'm legit shocked – Randy you always seem so mellow man! On the other hand, most/all of us who are married are thus competitive fighters...😂
Next bass-head who sees Randy maybe test his reflexes...? 🥊
Link on his FB post ^.

> On Friday [of Classic week I believe], Joe McElroy got 2nd place at the B.A.S.S. Nation Kayak Series National Championship. After receiving the trophy he's holding in the picture, he was also handed a check for $5,000.
> After having a couple of great days of fishing and accepting his award, Joe McElroy immediately looked at Jason, and told him he was donating his $5,000 check to JT.
Tx much to bass-head Jason A for the heads.
> "I'd guess a tournament as big as the Bassmaster college series that brought in that many people probably had a $2 million impact over the course of a week.
> "If we can attract these tournaments year in and year out, it's huge for the local economy. It just grows and grows and grows by word of mouth."
Yep lots of big dumb fish is reeeeeeal attractive!
Do other states do this too? Does it come from license sales/excise tax funds? If so that's our $$!
Called "hot chartreuse shad" – smallmouths anyone??
|
|
Always interestin' to get some tiddybits about 'em. Thanks to Bassin'Fan for the heads.
11. Couple new Gamakatsu thangs.
> ...feature a specially designed composite insert that not only protects an angler's line, but also provides 360-degree protection for the knot.
12. Asian carp updatin's.
On the TN River (duh).... Apparently the carp hate bubbles because they're commies. 😂
> ...introduced into India's Gobindsagar Reservoir on the Beas and Sutlej Rivers, escapees came to dominate the local fish population. Recent monitoring shows it now comprises 85% of the entire fish assemblage.
Yet:
> The Asian Development Bank...suggests breeding the known invasive Chinese silver carp in new reservoirs in Nepal.
Not a good idea man! They claim for food but is that really why?? #sketchy

We have water in NJ – willing to trade it for a good governor...😁
So far I've seen a few fishing bans in OR and CO due to low water, hope more aren't coming.
...of water to stay cool. Gonna assume they won't pollute it but that's a lotta water being used in a dry place that already is looking at a lot less water?
Hit it ^ if so, also lists the folks already in which does include Forrest Wood – I checked! Also Johnny Morris, Earl Bentz. Only glaring hole I see/remember right now is T-H Marine founder Bill Huntley (my 2c).
We'll find out in Nov.
Not bass but had to include it cuz it was on this custom paint:

> ...a buddy pours [KVD] custom Ned heads in 1/4-, 5/16- and 1/2-oz...he'll opt for a heavier head with a strong hook.
> "For smallmouth, I wanted a heavier head in deeper water to speed up the process. It was an evolution of what we have been doing with a tube, but with a different bait.
> "[The Strike King Baby Z-Too is] the perfect mix. It has salt, which adds weight, but the ElazTech makes it float and makes the rig want to stand up once it reaches the bottom. Using a Ned-style head, it always lands tail-up and once the big cloud of puff disappears, they can see it."
> Clausen believes the 1/3-oz Z-Man Pro Shroomz head forces smallmouth to make [a]...decision. "By getting that bait to come up off the bottom and fall back down quickly, smallmouth realize they have a split second to decide if they are going to commit. If you leave it on the bottom, they have a lot more time to make that decision as to whether they are going to follow it or bite or swim away."
Best line in that whole deal: "cloud of puff" from KVD. Here's the "Cloud Puff" My Little Pony...
|
|
...and here's the bassin' connections:
- Cloud of puff ➡️ Cloud Puff
- When Zona and I did the show "Loudmouth Bass," every single day we shot for about a year, Z would sing the "My Little Pony" song. 100% true. It's still stuck in my head!
- Zona and KVD are of course buds.
There you go! 🤣 #bassinlife

"We realized we didn't have a net, so that made harder trying to land a monster bass without the aid of a net and with an alligator trying to eat the fish."
> "We trolled up toward the alligator, and he was swimming near the lily pads, and my wife was taking pictures, so I picked up my frog rod and cast my KVD Poppin Perch frog past the alligator and was bringing it back out. I popped that frog twice, and there was such a massive explosion that I thought the gator ate it, but then I saw the gator swimming the other direction, so I set the hook, and it was like setting the hook into a truck!"
> The fish was huge, and it jumped one time in front of the alligator and when the gator realized it was a fish jumping it turned around and came back toward her.
> "When the alligator came up to the fish, I gave the fish some slack, and she went back down and wrapped the line around a log. We ran up there to get the fish off of the log, and every time she boiled near the surface the gator slashed and bit at the bass. ...so now the gator was trying to catch the fish, and we were trying to catch her before the gator got her."
> Walley finally got the fish off of the log and started trolling away from the pads into open water. But every time the bass got close to the boat and wallowed and thrashed on the surface, the gator tried to grab [it].
> "The gator finally got between the fish and boat, and it kept biting at the fish every time he got near the boat. We realized we didn't have a net, so that made harder trying to land a monster bass without the aid of a net and with an alligator trying to eat the fish.
> "I let the bass go down and then was trying to maneuver her around the boat while my wife started swatting at the gator with a rod to make him leave, but he didn't. I finally worked the bass around the boat behind the motor so we could get to her, and Dad was able to grab the bass and bring her in."
Gator vs motivated bass-heads = no contest! 😂 Btw, I found out it is true that some gators – older female ones – wear hats:

MLFLWer Grae Buck with a UNIT brown-head – which you can tell is big because of that rectangular body! That good-lookin' crank is a Bill Lewis MR-6 crank (blue chart):

This is way, WAY more rare than a bigfoot photo:
