Today’s Top 3

1. Are you kidding me?

KVD expressing himself to B.A.S.S.’s bumpboard man Max Leatherwood at the Bassin’masters Classic this year. Great thing about it was, Max was just jackin’ with him. That’s a lot of what’s great about bassin’ right there.

2. Ever catch a blue-faced largie?

This’un recently caught at Wright-Patman Lake TX. Any guesses? Too many craws? Blue-gills? Pop rocks?

Ever seen it before?

3. Uh…………no.

While everyone seems to focus on bass, catfish are right up there when it comes to popularity.

Rick Patri, Fishhound VP. Also said: “They’re highly sought after by anglers all across the country, but they don’t get the same level of attention as their green cousins. We’re out to change that, however.”

Hokey-dokey…good luck with that!

Btw, latest gummint survey has the score 10.6 million bass anglers spending 171 million days fishing for basses (1st most popular fish) vs. 7.0 million cat-heads fishing 96 mil days/year for bottom-feeders (4th most popular fish).

Gotta admit, the catfish numbers surprised me, but that number of days on the water difference is huge. Guarantee the spending difference is also huge.

On the other other hand, maybe this guy will get folks more into shore-fishin’ for slime fish:

Tip of the Day

Jimmy Mason on fishing the post-spawn.

Good piece on Bassin’Fan:

> “The obvious structure is associated with river bends that have flats, a bay or a high spot associated with them. Look at where the fish spawned and then find the closest ledges to them.

> “This is where good maps and good electronics play a big role. After the fish have been deep for a bit and all the obvious spots have been hit, you need to find the spots that aren’t so obvious.”

> Mason carries in his boat…a set of buoys – at least a dozen. “This way I can pick a depth, say 12 feet, and throw them out over a hundred-yard stretch. This allows me to actually see the subtle irregularities of a break that I can’t see on a map or my electronics.”

> “A hard bottom is a must and it doesn’t matter if it’s a shell bed, gravel or pea gravel. But, like I said before, mussel beds and even places with pea gravel can shift from year to year. Don’t think that the hot spot you found last year is going to produce this year – especially if they’ve been pulling a lot of water. Your hot spot could have been moved downstream or in some cases it’s completely gone.

Quote of the Day

My knees were a-knockin’ and I felt like I had noodle legs.

Donna Fulmer, talking about fishing her first tourney (American Bass Anglers Couples Tournament at Lake Murray) and catching the 6-02 big fish.

Only takes one bass to get hooked, doesn’t it. Awesome.
