1. Can the bassin’ West be conquered?

That’s the question I asked today in a post on BassParade, in light of the just-announced Gary Dobyns-backed “major western circuit” – covered weeks ago here on the BassBlaster (have you signed up yet?).

Vid in the above link talks about a 3-year plan, some other stuff, worth watching for sure, even if you don’t fish the West or ever plan to.

In brief, the plan is to succeed where B.A.S.S. and FLW have not (the West); 3-year plan that goes from CA and AZ in year 1, to the Pacific NW in year 2, to TX in year 3. Deets at the above link. Hope they succeed, would be interesting.

2. Is the water low where you are?

Probably, judging by this map. Dang!

If you can’t read the small print, anywhere on the map with a color is at most “abnormally dry.”

Tip of the Day

How the Classic champ stays cool.

> After you’ve been fishing for a while, you’ll probably be hot and sweaty. That’s when it’s time to cool off. Put on a pair of swim trunks or just take your wallet out of your pants, and jump overboard. That’ll cool you off in no time. Then, get back in the boat and do everything all over again.

> A word of safety is in order here. Make sure the water’s deep where you jump in. You can get hurt real bad jumping into shallow water. Never jump in headfirst. You’re asking for trouble if you do. Another thing is to have a ladder off the back of your boat. It seems easy to climb in a bass boat when you don’t have to. It’s another matter when you’re tired.

> And always have a lifejacket nearby. Throwing one into the water before you jump in isn’t a bad idea.
