Dude hates bassers, boats too spendy, fishin’ gals!

Welcome to Jay Kumar's BassBlaster, your daily-ish email of the best o' bassin'!

Fishin' biz folks, you still got time to get on the Blaster for 2014 (or before)! Just respond to this email to get in touch. Be crazay not to!

Today's Top 5

1. As an industry, we’re beginning to price ourselves out of business.

Brunsiwck Corp. CEO talkin' 'bout the boat biz.

Ya think??? Also said:

> "If we look at real market pricing, the cost of new boats is rising dramatically faster than the rate of inflation.”

> "We’ve all become very good at adding features and letting the costs fall where they may. But we now need to become better at engineering boats so they provide better value.”

Brunswick recently reported that "the aluminum and outboard market is growing; fiberglass sterndrive and inboard continues to struggle."

2. This dude hates bassers!

> These bass fishing tournaments are a frenzied activity to catch the five largest bass and return to the appointed area by a predetermined time. This industry…is fueled by one thing and one thing only! That is the great American cultural motivator, greed.

> The vast majority of tournament participants are from distant metropolitan areas. Their urban mindset and competitive personalities do not recognize the local river traditions, safety, ethics or courtesy to other river users.

> They have absolutely no regard for other river users or the river’s natural and cultural resources.

> I’ve seen them throw handfuls of monofilament fishing line to the wind, as well as cigar wrappers and other garbage. “No wake” violations, excessive speed are common. They cast their lures into, over and through where you’re fishing. The fish kill from this industry has long been recognized by the regulatory agencies.

Someone needs a bassin' boat ride…and needs to stop eatin' so many o' these:

That bassers are "from distant metropolitan areas" thing cracks me up!

3 Lakemaid brew gets frosty.

Frosty Winter Lager, "brewed especially for ice fishermen and anyone who embraces the cold and snow of Lake Country."

For the rest of us, here again are Miss Smallie and Miss Largie…in that order….

4. Why bassers don't git the gals…

…we be drivin' the wrong boats mang! Need a back deck bilt fer loungin', not fer fishin'….

5. This is the "Queen of Fish"??

> Kacey was chosen from among the 260 entries by popular vote and our prestigious panel of industry experts, fishing pros, and staff.

…which I presume were 100% male?? Here's a shot of one of the judges, sent in by our bud Droopy:

From a BassBlaster reader: I like the fact that MegaStrike is a sponsor. I won a tube on the Texas Fishing Forum one time and now I swear by it! It's great stuff.

Tip of the Day

Brandon Palaniuk: Speed crankin' anyone?

> One thing I noticed that hasn’t caught on here but has in Japan is shallow speed cranking. Most guys will burn a shallow spinnerbait, but not a crankbait.

> It’s a technique that I’ve used a lot in the past, and used in to win the Federation Championship. But until now, there hasn’t been a crankbait that can handle it.

> The new [Storm] Arashi can be burned, or fished slow. I think more people are going to pick up on that.

Btw in that Q&A he says he only fishes 3 colors of plastics: green pumpkin, black/blue and junebug.

Quote of the Day

People spend a lot of money on this and only use about 20% of it.

Guy talkin' 'bout boat electronics. Except for the Elites, who fall asleep studyin' their user manuals, I'd say it's more like…5%.

A 14-lb Zimbabwe largie, caught on a 7" Senko after he broke off a hippo…. (Okay, I made up the hippo part.)
