UK Angler Hooks Diver…In Crotch

Ouch! Here’s the skinny, from the Britain’s Daily Mail paper:

> A fisherman [fishing from shore] fought to reel in what he thought was the biggest catch of his angling career, only to find he had actually caught a scuba diver.

> John Goldfinch, 61, was fishing for mackerel with his friends at Budleigh Salterton, Devon when he suddenly felt a bite.

[He set the hook, got the fight of his life and pulled up…a scuba diver.]

> The diver was about 50 feet from the shore when his wetsuit was caught between the legs, and after he was pulled ashore his girlfriend carefully plucked the hook free. She handed it back to Goldfinch and apologized before they swam off again to continue with their dive.

> He said: ‘My mates were falling around laughing. I said ‘sorry mate I just didn’t see you there’ and he just said it was very murky down there.

> [Here’s our favorite line.] ‘The funniest thing was his girlfriend then surfaced, helped him remove my tackle from his tackle, then nonchalantly handed the hook back to me and apologized.

> ‘I didn’t see the diver because he didn’t have a safety buoy, which they’re supposed to have when they’re moving underwater.

> ‘My brother-in-law is a diver and he said it served the bloke right – at the end of the day he could have ruined his kit [slang for package] or worse.’

> He added: ‘When I told my wife, she just said she was glad I didn’t bring him home, as she couldn’t have eaten a whole one.’

Sounds like some finese fishing to me! Could have been a drop shot or shaky head. Good thing he wasn’t throwing a rip or jerk bait. Okay…I’ll stop. Those were weak.
