Today's Top 4

1. SFDD for Browning.

Same fish different day/year for Stephen "Red stud" Browning, who racked up his second straight Bassmaster Central Open win on the Reever Rojo this-a-here weekend. Congrats mang!

Also won it on the same spot as last year with the same bait, an unnamed squarebill crank in – wait for it – sexy shad. Could it be:

2. RayoStart won on communal holes.

(Dang, dude, gitcha a room!)

Guide Jon Henry won the Rayovac/EverStart/whatever at Guntersville in a fedy interstink vay:

> "The fish on those bridge spans are fished for every day, all day. They are the smartest fish in the lake. But I have spent hundreds of hours learning how they position and reposition with changes in current, sunlight, wind, time of day and amount of fishing pressure.”

> “Depending on how they are set up, the first cast is the most critical – everything has to be perfect on that first cast – the angle, the depth control, the speed of the retrieve. If they detect something is not right or if they detect they are being fished for they won’t bite and it’s over."

> "It’s almost more about hunting than fishing. If you can sneak up on them and get them to bite on the first cast and get them fired up – it’s provokes a feeding frenzy of big bass like you have never seen, and that’s what happened….”

Won it mostly with this bait:

> …6-inch Scottsboro Tackle Company Fringe swimbait in a color called “shad #1."

3. Ours is pretty much a crap sandwich, as are many of our neighbors.

Kevin Short after losing his home in the recent AR tornados. Also wrote:

> It's all just stuff, though.

> The worst part was losing several of our neighbors this evening. May God rest their souls.

This is Kevin's house – whoa.

4. Awesome bass frog vid!

Misses it the first time, gits it the second!

Very cool.

True!

Tip of the Day

Hank Cherry: Dock tips.

> "Docks that are by themselves are good. I prefer docks that don't look quite as fishy as other docks just because I don't think they get as many lures thrown at them."

> "Most of the time when you get into a place that has like 50 docks in a row, it's not that good. But if you get where there are 10 docks scattered around, your chances are better because there are less places for them to be."

> All morning, Cherry threw above-average sized baits and got bit by spotted bass, largemouth and even a bluegill that was barely the length of the swimbait it was caught on. He tends to think people sometimes skimp on bait size when fishing docks, thinking it's more of a numbers thing.

> "If they'll bite it, why downsize? The point isn't to catch many of them. The point is to catch five. I can understand trying to downsize to get your fifth one in the boat, but coming out of the gate doing that doesn't make sense."

Quote of the Day

I had kind of a rough start to this tournament with only 22 pounds the first day and that put me in a hole I had to climb out of.

FLW RayoStart winner Jonathan Henry. Dude – I wanna have a rough start like that one day hahaha! Guess it just shows how off the charts Guntersville is…til they kill the grass anyway….

Guy's name reminds me of the "Ballad of John Henry." Love this version, Led Zep-esque, Jason Bonham on the skins:
