Today's Top 5

1. JVD wins Green Bay with…Dream Shot!

How weird is that? The BassBlaster covers the as-yet-unreleased Strike King Dream Shot dropshot bait last week and here comes JVD and wins the Green Bay Elite with it! Anyhow, congrats to JVD and here's a little more on the bait – from the Z-train, who co-designed the bait with that other VanDam:

> "It started from being up at the Thousand Islands – I carved a 4-inch Strike King Caffeine Shad with a razor. I talked to KVD about how they ate it."

> "Flat bottom [of the bait] is a big key – lets it stand straight out, plus has great action with the taper near the tail."

> "We wanted a dropshot bait that would catch spots, largies and smallies, and it does –  but selfishly, Kevin and I wanted a smallie killer, and we got it."

> "It works on everything – seriously. Split-shot, shaky head, whatever."

And there you have it. Here's a pic of what I believe is the winning color – was not easy to track down!

2. What could've been.

If we could have gone just a little further north, 61 pounds wouldn't have been any good at all, unless it was a three-day total.
– Ott DeFoe

Without a (boundary), several guys would have cracked 100 pounds.
– Elite angler, no name given

Can you imagine multiple daily limits of these?

Instead, the state of Wisconsin ended up with yet another bassin' black eye. Cheese kills brain cells!

3. Dudley wins again…and again.

Dang! David Dudley again shows why he's one of the best ever, IMO. He won two FLW Tour tournaments this year (Champlain this weekend and Beaver in April), and thereby won his second straight FLW Angler of the Year title.

No matter how you slice it, that's impressive. The most interesting thing to me is that he used a spinning rod most of the tournament (all tournament?), wacky-rigged and dropshotted worms, and weighed all/mostly largies. He's a diehard super-heavy-casting rod guy, so it shows he'll do what it takes to get the job done. Also interesting to see how close to shore he was (see pic).

Way to go D-squared!

Tip of the Day

Here you go, JVD talking about the Dream Shot. He says that 90% of strikes on fall and initial pickup.

Quote of the Day

I've got a ton of spots.

– Aaron Martens at Green Bay.

Can you have too many spots? Because seems like the guys who did well had fewer spots or were spot-hunting (like JVD).

Shot of the Day

JVD after he lost a big brownie on day 4. Think he looks bummed?!
