Sexing Chickens and Bassin’ PPV

Bear with me here [*cracks knuckles*].

Do you know how to sex chicks – meaning, tell the sex of chicks? (Not full-grown chickens, just that “Sexing Chicks” in the headline was a little much.)

“Very carefully.” Ha ha, no really.

If you say you do, you’re lying. Because apparently, no one knows how.

Still, some people can do it…somehow. And they can teach other people to do it. Not the blind leading the blind, exactly, because it’s done entirely visually. The point here is that without knowing how they sex chicks, they can do it and people can be taught to do it.

How teaching happens is, the people who “know” how to do it stand behind or next to the trainees, and when a trainee picks up a chick the trainer says, I guess, “hen” or “c…” – I mean “rooster.” (Dang, this whole chicken thing is one big double entendre. How did that ever happen?)

After a while the trainees get it – they “know” how to do it somehow.

What the heck does this have to do with bassin’ pay per view?

Well, after we hear about the Monkey Liberation Fronters doing the ppv thing, along comes some more pros who say they’re going to do ppv on a website. I actually like the concept, and if you’re just looking to spend more hours in front of a screen that’s cool. BUT:

Seems if you really want to become a better basser, you need to have someone much better than you in your boat looking over your shoulder and telling or showing you what to do. Sort of the “Schooled by Denny Brauer” thing (awesome show) but in real time and for a whole day. Maybe multiple days.

That’s how you develop those quick instincts.

I’m assuming this is how well-known guys like Chad Brauer and JVD learned. Definitely it’s how us non-pros learned, from dad or someone else. But, you know, you’re never too old to learn how to se– …to tell chicks apart, or something like that.

The co-angler gig is great ppv because it has a hands-on practical application process that lets you know if you are doing it right. Not sure I would ppv on the internet for the same stuff that is published elsewhere or already on TV.

Since we all can’t fish in-person with the pros, watching videos and reading about how to become a better bass angler will have to do…
