Today’s Top 5

Hot off the floor of the Icast fishing tackle trade show day 2, here you go, some of my faves. Everything I think worthy of bassin’ heads to know about will be posted on bassblaster.bassgold.com…eventually. Following are five things that caught my eye, in no order:

1. Savagear (Savage Gear)

Learn everything you can about these baits. Will be running a longer piece about this company on BassParade at some point, but here’s the bottom line: wow.

Baits are developed by a European tourney angler, and are very, very, very awesome. And I say that as a jaded “been in this a long time” bass fisherman.

2. Big Bite Buzzing Warmouth

I’m digging Big Bite baits. This is a buzzbait that looks like a warmouth/bluegill on its side. Cool idea.

3. Ever Green is in the house.

These high-end Japanese baits are coming to the U.S. Dang, they sher are purdy. Can’t wait to sample a couple….

4. The Strike King Dream Shot is small!

Tough to tell from product shots, so here’s one on someone’s hand.

5. Clunn’s signature reel is kinda psychedelic.

Not bad, necessarily, but sorta psychedelic in a toad-licking kinda way.

More from Icast

1. Tightlines UV – Brent Chapman swore to me (okay, he doesn’t swear) there’s something to this, and after seeing a few demos I’m intrigued. Tough to show with photos, but here’s a chartreuse spinnerbait trailer in regular light then in ultraviolet light. Most impressive, young Skywalker.

2. Rapala/Storm’s UV jerkbaits may be a bit too odd-looking to buy? You make the call.

3. A different way to paint a crawfish crank?

4. Swim with bass, look like bass.

5. Shimano’s in the frog biz? Don’t get the wisdom of putting the bait in the package so the belly is showing, but what do I know.

6. Painted Bullet Weights (lead).

7. “You dirty rat”…UV Grass Rat, that is. Dare you to fish it!

We’ll return to the regular set o’ features (tip of the day, quote of the day, etc.) after Icast, meaning Friday or Monday.

I think it’s ingenious to put the frog in the package with the belly showing. That’s all the fish sees anyway.

You’re right but lure-selling 101 is you have to catch the fisherman first!

You sure that’s a frog? Looks like one of those deep jigging octopus!!
