Sorry 'bout the scary-ish deal there ^ , just said "Spawn" and the colors worked...😁
Not exactly pre-spawn "go time" where I'm at and maybe the same for you, but so what let's look at some baits 'n stuff! Per usual, ain't everything you can fish pre-spawn, just some suggestions for you – mostly BB sponsor stuff because it's real dang good!
Part 2 comin' at ya soon.

Big-time pre-spawn bait, proved itself in the Classic a few years back at the same time of year. Old-school butyrate plastic body, duller-sounding lead rattle, great Norman colors and if you're fishing grass, word is it comes through grass great.
How 'bout a Wart that runs 3-8' deeper than the original? Means those deeper fish that have never seen a Wart can now!
This new bait with the same plastic, action, rattle, #winning Wiggle Wart colors and that good ol' hunting action gets to 11-13'. Also has sticky #4 VMC trebles.
Real good vid here featurin' Jacob Wheeler and Gerald Swindle. Pretty sure if they like it we will too....
Crawl a Frittside along the bottom that looks just like a dang crawfish? Sign me up! Only thing I still haven't figured out – and maybe never will – is how David Fritts fishes crankbaits on braid. Fritts ain't right...in a good way....
A smaller, tight-wobble/wiggle flat side designed by Ott "Garage" DeFoe for working up shallow – kinda a finesse crank with a circuit-board lip. Runs to about 4', weighs 5/16-oz and has a pair of #5 VMC Hybrid Trebles.
Good vid of Ott Talkin 'bout it, says he wanted an action similar to the Rapala Shad Rap, which you probly know is a cold-water killer:
Bass like tight wiggles and this bait has 'em. Designed by Mark Daniels Jr, hits around 6', weighted to slowly rise when paused and has a low-pitched knock. Two #4 Mustad Triple Grip Trebles too.
I talk about this bait EVERY YEAR because it's a cold-water monster. Little-known squarebill has been helping win tournaments for decades. Can crawl it or burn it, 1/4-oz, #4 VMC trebles.
Is the Bandit 200 the ultimate pre-spawn crankbait? Well it's bite-sized (1/4-oz, 2"), dives to 4-8', and comes in good colors that have been fooling bass for years. To fish it, Bandit recommends a M-action rod with a light tip, a slower reel (in the 6s) and 10-12 lb fluoro.
LIPLESS CRANKS
Little different size (3" and 3/8-oz or 1-oz) and look than other lipless cranks. Cool little deal is they rest nose down on the bottom, as this little vid shows:
Y'all got your faves and you know what the best ones are. Here's a couple newer and good ones:
Here's the one reason we all should own this bait: Hank Cherry (that color is "Hankie pankie" ^). THE MAN with jerkbaits.
Other than that, just a reminder that you do NOT need Live sonar to fish a jerkbait! Hit points, drains/ditches leading to spawning flats, hard cover, even grass if you've got it.
Cool little hype vid on it:
Yo-Zuri got big-time serious with its jerkbait redesign recently and these baits are what resulted with a LOT of pro input = good! Better action, better colors = what the pros wanted.
Here's 2 good vids about these baits and about how/where/when to fish 'em with the 2 Brandons – Card and Cobb:
Talked to a big-time jerkbait fisherman the other day and he said he loves this rod. Not too long and you can feel the fish breathe on it. I haven't used it but ain't gonna doubt Jewel's Gayle Julian in anything bass fishin':

Spinnerbaits 'n Jigs 'n such
Word is the Covert Single Colorado is what Jason Christie picks up first thing in the pre-spawn because it moves slow and push water with the big single Hildebrandt blade. He typically likes a larger size – 3/4- or 1-oz – in "white blue chart" or "white chart" depending on water clarity.
The War Eagle Jui Jig Su Jig is good at crawling through deep cover like a structure jig – it hardly ever hangs thanks to its Arkie-style head – so it's good around brushpiles, rockpiles, docks or any pre-spawn jig targets.
A smaller Buckeye Mop Jig (^ watermelon red) with a thinner-diameter living-rubber skirt and a lighter-wire hook, plus it has rattles...😍
TRAILERS 'N SCENTS
Few more-finessy colter-water options for ya (and me!):
Uncle Josh Pork – Bass do eat pork whenever they can get it, and would swallow a pig whole if it was small enough....
Ever hear of it? Me neither but a real cool idea and looks like it'd work great. Why use it? Only thing worse than a short strike is losing your bait too – and I gotta think if a fish short-strikes and DOESN'T get the bait, maybe it comes back?
