hey fishin' biz folks – DO NOT finalize your ad budgets before gettin' on the BassBlaster, the #2 daily read in bassin'!  Just reply to this email addy for info. You crayzay not to….

Today's Top 3

1. Workin' your frog too slow?

Check this – guy jerks his frog a few times, gives up on the cast, burns it back and BOOM, a 9-pounder!

At the end, the slow-mo strike, you can see how the bass comes from behind and then turns to slam the bait in the head.

That's the Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog, ICAST best soft bait winner, and one of my faves at the show – sick leg action.

Case you think that was a fluke, check the same thing, same frog, happening here.

2. These guys now have no fear.

Jeff "who you callin' crazy" Kriet talkin' to Bassin'Fan about why he's "sucked" (his word) the last half of the last two Elite seasons. Sounds kinda like this (haha love ya Kriet!):

Also said:

> "I don't like the long runs up [north]. I let the weather and wind stress me out. But the rule is at those lakes, if they let you go in the morning, you have to go. You can't say, 'It's too windy to get to my spot.'"

> "I even talked to (Kevin) VanDam during practice…. I told him, 'You know we're wasting our time. There's no way we can win in St. Clair.' He looked me straight in the eye and said, 'Nope, there's no way we can.' I still had 2 days of practice left and spent them both in St. Clair. That's the kind of stuff I look back at now and am like, 'D*mn, if you're going to do this, you better go for it.'"

BP woke up 98 other guys at the St. Lawrence. Can't wait to see how that plays out in 2014.

3. I was probably the brokest I’ve ever been after my rookie season.

Chris Zaldain talkin' 'bout 2012 on the Elites. Then said:

> "I had a lot to prove to both my sponsors and myself heading into this season."

> "There were some big differences in my preparation for this season compared to my preparation for the 2012 season. Last year I kind of went into the whole thing and figured that since I made the Elite Series I could just wing it and catch fish. I learned pretty quickly that isn’t how things work out here. "

> "There was a lot on the line, and I kept telling myself to do whatever it took to survive."

Good interview at the Bassin' Zone. Awesome photo by Garrick Dixon.

Why you should try this, from a BassBlaster reader: I like the fact that MegaStrike is a sponsor. I won a tube on the Texas Fishing Forum one time and now I swear by it! It's great stuff.

Tip of the Day

Kurt Dove: Adjusting your fishing style.

In his case, to compete on the Elites…interesting (shot by Garrick Dixon again):

> "I learned that I really need to relax coming out of the gates. I got so amped up on the first morning of each tournament that I fished too fast for the first few hours of the day, and that really hindered my performance because I got out of rhythm. "

> “Generally speaking, I found quality fish during practice. In the tournament, I wasn’t fishing the same way I did in practice when I was more relaxed."

> "During my time away from the Elite Series, I forgot about the adrenaline rush of the competition when you’re fishing against the top guys in the world.”

> “There’s no question that when you have just 2 1/2 practice days, it’s a tough nut to crack because you can’t cover as much water and experiment with techniques.  Over the past several years of fishing the Opens, I generally put in 5 days of practice before each tournament, and the shortened Elite Series practice time kind of snuck up on me this year.”

> In 2014, Dove is committed to putting in more time pre-practicing at tournament locations where he is unfamiliar with the water.

Quote of the Day

I can't believe more of the pros haven't moved here.

Guy talkin' 'bout the great bassin' on Lake Champlain. Also said:

> "This lake is so diverse. One part is almost like a Florida lake, shallow and filled with weeds. Other parts have heavy cover. And others have the deep, rocky structure smallmouths like."

Shot of the Day

Bassmaster.com writer and seriously funny dude Steve Wright sent me these pics from a recent bassin' trip. Said:

> "I ordered some of those [MegaStrike] shaky heads [advertised on] the BassBlaster. I had a Strike King KVD Beaver on one of them when I caught a decent-size spotted bass. The result was a fish that had no chance of coming unbuttoned, as you can see…. My question is: How in the heck does this happen?"

No idea. Anyone?
