The year was 1991. Paul Elias’ beard was black instead of gray. Bo Dowden was rockin’ some stylish camo suspenders. Rick Clunn was THE MAN. Zell Rowland was catching fish on topwaters [okay, some things never change]. And the impressive rookie not-yet-known as KVD was still an “up-and-comer”.
Oh, what a difference 20 years makes.
It’s Classic week. And I can’t think of a better way to kick it off than to hop on the Bassmaster’s Classic time machine and travel back to 1991 at Chesapeake Bay and marvel at how the sport has evolved over the past 2 decades.
The local favorite: Randy Romig
The impressive rookie: Kevin VanDam
Zell working his topwater magic…
Ken Cook makes his move…

Great post!! A mere 20 years ago…. I’ll bet there is an 8lb smallmouth somewhere up in Canada that was around back then. Love the videos.
