Today’s Top 3

New baits edition:

1. Two new cranks from Norman.

Names sound like…XD?

N XS

> Between the Deep Little N and the DD22

> Faster vertical dive because of lip, dives 12-16′

> 2.5″ long, 5/8 oz

HD

> HD = “Heavy Diver”

> Weighted to provide maximum castable distance without helicoptering.

> Longer cast and more weight means the HD reaches running depth quicker and stay there longer.

> Dives 11-17′, 3″ long, 1 oz

2. New Bronzeye Froggie colors.

Bassmaster.com had a post on these the other day, but…just one partial pic. These awesome pics from landbigfish.com:

3. Are you Flash Mobbin’ yet?

A-rigs may be “old news,” but they sher ketch fishes, especially now. If you’re getting skunked or just want to have the most fun in the least amount of time, tie one on mang!

And hey, $20 is a small price to pay for some basses.

Tip of the Day

Work out like Ish!

> Every year during the off-season, Ish Monroe spends a lot of his time in the gym, 2-3 hours a day, 5 days a week primarily to strengthen his back and to build his arm muscles.

> “Fishing’s a lot of standing up, sitting down and those rough water rides take a heavy toll on your back. So the more muscle you build back there, the more cushioning you have in your back, the stronger your back’s going to be for taking those waves whether on plane or standing on the trolling motor.”

> “The other thing is casting, pitching, and flipping takes a lot out of your arms and especially since the FLW Tour allows the Alabama Rig, that’s not an easy rig to throw all day.”

> The knees are another area of concern to Ish. To help build up strength in his knees, he spends a lot of time on the treadmill, trying to run 20 miles a week on the treadmill.

> “I will shed 25-30 pounds at the gym before the 2013 tournament season opens. That’s what I do roughly every year, and I will put that 25-30 pounds back on during the course of the season by not working out and by spending a lot of time eating junk.”

Quote of the Day

I did it by using a spear with my buddy in a creek. I tried with a string and bacon but it never worked. Me and my cousin…picked up big rocks an caught a few like that also. I’ve heard and seen people do it with traps…do the traps work? And do you do it like the lobster fishermen of the east coast, just smaller scale?

– In the “we can’t make this stuff up” category, a Q on the Texas Fishing Forum about – you guessed it – how to catch crawdads. Not…really…that…hard.
