Today WI Can Join the 21st Century

Today the Wisconsin State Assembly will vote to allow culling – and thus join the 21st century. Or actually the 20th century since every other state with common sense allowed culling sometime back.

The state Assembly will vote today on bill AB 35, termed an “economic stimulus bill for the sporting community” by its author, state Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc) – don’t try pronouncing that one with a mouthful of potato chips.

Anyhow, if passed, the bill will allow culling during tournaments. That’s the bottom line. It’s important, and thanks to the efforts of our bassin’ brothers up in those parts, Joel knows why:

“Right now we are losing millions in revenue to our state’s economy because several large fishing tournaments refuse to hold events in Wisconsin until the state allows culling,” he said. “Surrounding states which allow culling are getting the tournaments….”

He added: “In 2005, an experimental culling tournament was allowed near Chippewa Falls. That one tournament was shown to bring in $2.1 million to the immediate area.”

Dang right!

Rep. Kleefisch’s office stated that “several large bass fishing tournaments have promised to hold events here as soon as this summer if the culling ban is repealed.”

I assume the big sticks up there are hatching plans to take everyone else’s money….

If you live in Wisconsin – or Minnesota or anywhere else nearby and want to fish derbies in Wisconsin – I hope you make your voice heard before the vote. Politicians pay attention to that stuff, and you know the people who for no good reason don’t want culling have bent some ears.

Otherwise cross your fingers for our cheese-head buds that enough of their state’s politicians see things with the common sense that their fellow legislator does. If not…. Well, can’t even seriously consider that possibility. Bizarre enough that we’re talking about this in 2011.

Here’s a quote from Dan Brovarney on http://www.futurebass.com‘s message board. About what happen today.
“Sorry it is not passed yet. There is one more reading of the bill needed because the Dems opjected to waving the third reading of the bill. The next year thing did not pass. Next go round should send it to the senate”

Still not there yet but real close!!!!

Well we had a pretty nice day in Madison yesterday. The vote on AB35 (Culling Bill) was held and it passed but ……..it needs to be presented one more time for a third reading due to a parliamentary trick. The vote was was 57-37 with one lone Demacrate (Hintz out of Oshkosh) voting for it. It was surprising to me that Representative Jennifer Shilling from La Crosse voted against it. That ought to make the the recall election in La Crosse againt AB35 supporter Senator Dan Kapanke interesting. I hope So it is Delayed….

While in Madison we started visiting Senators and the feedback was good. The Head of the Senates natural resource committe told us that he plans a hearing on the bill in the near future. Some high lights where recieving strong support from the office of the speaker of the house, Strong Support from Senator Dan Kapanke of the La Crosse Area and the high light for me Suport from Terry Moulton who aside from being the Senator from the Chippewa Falls area (where the E50 was held during the Bass Pilot program) is also the inventor of the Mouldy’s hog wobbler Musky Bait.

When we got done with talking about Culling and got down to talking fishing he let it out that he was shipping quite a few to Texas and California……..but that nobody seemed to be talking about them or the fish they were catching on them. One clue ……it isn’t finesse fishing……

    I’ll keep up dating you.
