How To Be An Outdoorswuss

Yep, wuss. Not outdoorsman or outdoorswoman – outdoorswuss. All I can do is quote the article that photo is from, with my comments in brackets:

In centuries past, mounted deer (or other animal) heads were considered a type of trophy – an item that illustrated the skills and capabilities of the hunter who killed the deer [what about this century?]. If a man had a deer head on his wall, you would assume that he was virile, manly, capable of taking care of his little woman and kids, and probably a few other things as well [thaaaaaaas right!].

But what is the modern, eco-conscious vegetarian man to do when he too wants to use interior design to demonstrate his masculine, yet environmentally sensitive, attributes? [How about take of his dress and put on some pants…and lose the nail polish….] Play on the classic mounted deer head and hang a “green” cardboard version. [One question: How many arrows can it take?]

Believe or not, that article is not tongue in cheek – it’s written in all seriousness. Almost choked on my breakfast biscuit when I read it. Don’t know what else to say.

Wussness aside, some of that cardboard stuff is kinda cool in an art sense.

They are pretty nice! Expensive though.

I wish I could make some up I would sell them for charity to help people get meat on their plates! Maybe buy some poor soul a grill!

I’m a vegetarian. The cardboard trophy is just as dumb as the real thing.

Hunting for food is fine with me. Hunting just to kill something sounds like the “small man, big truck” complex to me.

I realize fishing might be contradictory to most vegetarians feelings regarding a living thing, but a big part of why I fish is because Dad isn’t around to anymore. I also give panfish to my mom to eat. *shrug*

What if you hunt to kill AND eat it? Mainly kill though. Eating is icing on the cake.

Now if you chop it’s head off and leave the carcass to the coyotes (an animal you kill just to kill) then we got issues.

The freakin dress comment killed me lol.
