Welcome to Jay Kumar's BassBlaster, your daily-ish email of the best o' bassin'!

Fishin' biz folks, you still got time to get on the Blaster for 2014 (or before)! Just respond to this email to get in touch. Be crazay not to!

Today's Top 3

1. FLW is certainly a great place for anglers to begin a fishing career.

FLW Champeenship winner Randall Tharp, who's fishin' the Elites too next year. He also said no to renewing his FLW-brokered EverStart sponsorship so he can start afresh.

Pretty sure Randall did not mean it how it sounds…?

2. [Bass] fishing competitively is just like any other sport – just like playing backyard basketball or touch football.

Huh?? Well, guess it makes more sense than this:

3. It's because you're jiggling the rod tip 400 miles an hour.

Elite pro Kurt Dove talkin' 'bout gettin' too jacked for tournament days.

He assured me this was not cuz of a new sponsor he has:

Hahaha! Just kiddin' – but it be lookin' like that's a real candy.

News

1. TX: 13-lber caught at Fork.

First ShareLunker of the season:

> Proctor caught the 13.29-pound bass from 18 feet of water on 4-pound line while fishing for crappie under the Texas 154 bridge. He was using a Panfish Assassin lure.

> The fish was held for pickup at The Minnow Bucket, an official Toyota ShareLunker Weigh and Holding Station. The fish was 25 inches long and 21 inches in girth.

Btw, here's a Panfish Assassin, all 1.5" of it:

If you're a-gonna go that small (dropshot maybe?), try the Strike King Mr. Crappie ShadPole. That knob on the end makes for some sick action. Wish they made it bigger for basses:

2. CA: Cranks hot at Clear Lake.

3. LA: 58K Florida bass stocked in Red River.

> The RRWC has agreed to a five-year plan to stock $50,000 worth of bass fingerlings annually into the five pools of the Red River.

4. Westernbass.com's new homepage.

Facelift, looks way better….

From a BassBlaster reader: I like the fact that MegaStrike is a sponsor. I won a tube on the Texas Fishing Forum one time and now I swear by it! It's great stuff.

Tip of the Day

Do you do this? Can you?

Edwin Evers on winning:

> I've learned that I have to turn a deaf ear to all the talk about who's catching them and where and on what.

> I have to fish the current conditions and not fish for the bass that other guys are catching or that were being caught a week ago or last year.

> Outside sources can help you to some good finishes, but most of my wins have come on waters I've never seen before and on fish I found by myself.

Also said that weekend anglers' biggest mistakes are:

> They do the same things over and over even when the fish are doing something different. Also, they don't pay enough attention to their electronics.

Quote of the Day

For years I practically starved to death.

Evers talkin' 'bout gettin' a fishin' career goin'. Also said:

> I don't think people realize how tough it is to break through in this sport.

> Getting started requires a tremendous number of sacrifices. For me it's been worth it, though.
