Today’s Top 3

1. GA angler uses diet/exercise to succeed.

FLW Tour pro Micah Frazier, that is. Well, I for sho know that most o’ the household names in bassin’ don’t eat like this. Guess with enough ketchup you can make firewood taste okay?

> A typical breakfast on the Frazier plan consists of oatmeal and egg whites. He means just oatmeal, occasionally with almonds and some sort of artificial sweetener….

> Frazier basically suggests anything with whole grains like oatmeal and granola bars in the morning along with something high in protein like Greek yogurt or peanut butter.

> “For on-the-water meals, I cook a big thing of brown rice, grilled chicken and raw vegetables for the week and keep it in the cooler. It’s not the best thing after three days in a cooler but it’s what your body needs….”

> “My ideal dinner is a pound of steamed broccoli and a couple grilled chicken breasts….”

Whatever happened to the days of Vie-ennas?

2. Take Dave Wolak’s fall bassin’ quiz?

Alright Dave, riddle me this: Why do PA drivers drive like little old ladies – in the left lane? And how can you serve French fries AND perogies in the same eatery?

Oh wait…WE take the quiz. It’s on FieldandStream.com so it takes like an hour because it’s a slide show, but knock yo’sefs out!

Here’s the first question – as far as I got: Which factor contributes most to fall “turnover” in a lake?

Love Dave but…snore….

3. Is TX’s Sweetwater heading down the drain…again?

Sounds like a lake in a desert:

> A dropping water level and declining bluegill numbers could signal trouble ahead for Sweetwater’s bass.

> Sweetwater, which filled in fall 2007, has since experienced a 17-foot drop in water level, 10 feet of that since 2011.

> Bluegill declined from over 1,000 bluegill in one hour of electrofishing in 2009 to just 69 bluegill in one hour this fall. Add the possibility of golden alga blooms to a dropping water level and you have a two-headed monster, the same monster responsible for Sweetwater’s slow and torturous demise from 1998-2007, when the lake dropped over 40 feet and golden alga killed most of the remaining fish.

> A district record 368 largemouth bass were collected in one hour of electrofishing…although 81 percent of those bass were less than 14 inches long….

Tip of the Day

Ever fish the HeBeGB color?

Okie Bassmaster Open angler Gerald Brown:

> I do most of my jig fishing with just one color that Elk River Jigs makes up special for me. It’s called HeBeGB (get it?), and it works everywhere I’ve ever tried it.

> HeBeGB has a green pumpkin base with four strands of orange rubber. Whether bass are feeding on crawfish or bluegill, they’ll eat that color.

Quote of the Day

It’s not entertaining to see two grown men preparing to do battle with a net that holds a 2-pound bass.

– Ray Scott with his always-entertaining turn of phrase, back a few years on BassFan.com. And he’s right!
