Boone's redefining the word "handful." 😅 Gotta shout out where we got him from, Whistling Wings in AL, breeders/trainers of "the ultimate sporting dog."
Got our first Lab Lucky from there 10 years ago (she's still here) because we wanted a a 50-lbs or less Lab but less "blocky-looking" than an English Lab, smart and with great hunting instincts. That's exactly what we got. Looks like we got the same with Boone...though he is a dang handful! He's getting better tho....

Is this the first actually un-chippable jighead paint?
|
|
In this FB video, bass-head named Ronnie Green (afishingstory com – can't link it) says it WILL NOT chip if it smacks riprap, docks or anything. That pic ^ is one of his Unbreakable Thunder Jigs with it. More on the tech from here:
> Stardust powders are essentially color pigments in various colors, with special unique plastic polymer or rubber which has the ability to homogenize and become very sticky when heated.
> They are odorless, have the property of waterproofing the lead weight, protecting it and reducing the toxicity that it has as metal. They have 5 different [types]...colors, camouflage, sparkle, luminous, UV.
> Heat your jig with a small torch, deep it in the Stardust powder for 2 seconds, heat the powder again so it is homogenized and circle the jig, put eyes on (or not), dip it in water and shake it for 20 seconds – boom, ready to fish! It becomes very durable and has no dripping of the colors or anything like that. [Here's a FB video showing that.]

WTHeck is this bait Taku Ito??
|
|
Check the Nories Sankaku T-San:
|
|
> Nories Sankaku T-San is ready in Japan. I should receive it by end of next week. Taku Ito designed this bait. He has been using it quietly at Elite events.
Had no idea how to rig it – here's how it's done:
|
|
Looks right now Taku is dropshotting a couple shrimp baits – check 'em here and here on the Insta.

Lake Champlain Pro Circuit top 10 baits breakdown.
|
|
Won by TX's Kyle Hall by 1 OUNCE over a guy named Canada from AL! 😁 What up all you Northeast peeps???
|
|
Big congrats to him, here's what he did:
Pretty much a dropshot deal and it looks like Kyle won with just smallmouths? If so, either that shows that all smallmouths now CAN win a 4-day Champlain tourney (not the case in previous years) or maybe weather or fuel prices maybe prevented a run to largie territory? Don't know, either way here's what the top 10 fished:
Swimbait = 30%
Shout-outs
- Kyle and Dakota Ebare (3rd) are roommates, and there's a great story about 'em and how they figured out smallmouths in that post.
- Dakota looked for birds for areas to fish, and also dropshotted a Z-Too.
- Matt Becker (4th) is from PA so there's you're first northerner in the top 10. Kurt Mitchell (DE) finished 7th. (Thought DE had either been absorbed by MD and VA, or by the ticket-happy DE State Police...lol just messin' DE peeps!)
- OK's Kyle Cortiana (8th) caught 80% of his fish (smallmouths) on a Carolina rig using a YUM Christie Craw, then culled up dropshotting the new YUM FF Sonar Minnow – 1st mention of a high finish on that new bait not include Jason Christie:
|
|
- Yella man Skeeter Reese finished 10th but "was in contention for a top 5 finish until the steering wheel column on his boat broke on the final day." Dang! He had 0 lbs that day....

BRP came out with its first new outboard since canning Evinrude, it's not a 'Rude, it's not electric and it's...partly submerged??
|
|
Ooookay. If you recall, BRP shut down Evinrude in May 2020, kinda blaming Covid, just before the greatest boat-selling market maybe ever, and was talkin' 'bout coming out with electric outboards. Well, here's where they're at now, info from here:
> BRP Inc. and its marine group recently announced the all-new Rotax outboard models at its dealer event in Salt Lake City, UT. The engine announcement paired with the unveiling of new models from the manufacturer's Manitou pontoon and AlumaCraft lineups for MY 2023.
> The new Rotax outboard engine with "Stealth Technology" is initially offered in 115hp and 150hp....
> The new outboards are partially submerged underwater, hidden under the boat, and therefore frees up valuable space at the stern.
> ...Rotax outboards allow for up to 20% improved fuel efficiency compared to traditional outboard engines, along with a 12% reduction in reportable emissions and a 98% reduction in carbon monoxide at idle.
> The Rotax outboard will be featured on some of the newest boats from the BRP Marine Group including AlumaCraft's 2023 Competitor and Trophy models....
From this shot it doesn't look like it's plug 'n play with any boats except the ones they make for it:
|
|
So is it an inboard/outboard??
BRP did say after they shot down Evinrude they would be working on boat/motor combos so this fits with that deal. Otherwise I guess they're betting gov't outboard regs are gonna get a lot more strict, or peeps really like their new boats, and/or some folks really want that extra space at the stern?

Jeff demanded "any 4" cranks outta his box first 😆:

Good, thorough post on the MLF site – couple deals from it:
> Following the culmination of the 2022 Pro Circuit regular season at Lake Champlain...BPT anglers Michael Neal, Justin Lucas and Dakota Ebare finished the season in the Pro Circuit top 10 [in AOY points]. If they maintain their current Bass Pro Tour AOY standings in the top 65 (Ebare is 11th, Lucas is 21st, Neal is 24th) those 3 spots will revert back to the existing BPT field to refill, based on career lifetime Bass Pro Tour AOY average.
> That would effectively move the career-average cut line down 3 places to 73rd place...and leave 7 [instead of 10] invitations open to the remaining anglers in the 2022 Pro Circuit top 10 (Spencer Shuffield, Josh Butler, Matt Becker, Nick LeBrun, Mitch Crane, John Hunter and Jacob Wall).
> If the season ended today, Luke Clausen would earn the “golden ticket” final spot in 65th place.... Kelly Jordon would be first man out with 152.5. 5 anglers (Jordon, John Murray, Gary Klein, Russ Lane and Brett Hite) lurk within 15 points of 65th.
> The final 8 anglers with work to do to climb above the 70 spot are: Jeff Kriet (64.67), Jordon (65.33), Cliff Crochet (68.33), Boyd Duckett (68.67), Mike McClelland (69.67), Jason Lambert (70.0), Shaw Grigsby (71.33) and Paul Elias (72.33).
...on Bassmaster.com:
> ...of all his gifts, I think his ability to make you feel like the most important person in the room might have helped his cause the most.
And Ray meant it every single time – even when he was makin' fun of someone!
St Lawrence River, starts next week. John Cox qualified 16th in the points but can't fish it...because so far he's refused to use the Mike Iaconelli cloning machine that John Crews is now dabbling in...😂
Aka Omega Jigs. Sounds like his wife Noel will be the boss...😁
...the Coquille River to try to help chinook salmon survival.
If I'm reading that right, that's very cool.
...which has nothing to do with tackle. Helps search for waterbodies and has regs.
Obviously that seal heard about all those fat St Lawrence smallies....
Executive director Carter Smith is saying adios.
...but that's relative to the prior Q3 which was way up:
> Total company net sales in the 3rd quarter declined 5% to $203.8 mil compared to the prior year’s record-high 3rd fiscal quarter. Key contributing factors include: Fishing sales declined by 12% driven primarily by ongoing supply chain disruptions....
Interesting that in the other 3 sales categories – camping, watercraft and diving – sales were up.
Earnings report – reminder that YETI is a public company. Seems like almost every company I've talked to or heard about is at least uncertain about the rest of '22 and also 2023.

On BassBlaster.rocks right now...
|
|
> Fishing the Vision 110 Jr for late-summer bass can trigger strikes from fish that would otherwise not respond to more traditional lures like crankbaits or slower-moving offerings.
> ...you have 2 main jerkbait patterns to follow. The first one is centered around northern smallmouth bass.
> The big smallmouth in these lakes will cruise large shallow flats in 3-8'.... Smaller jerkbaits like the Vision 110 Jr, fished on 8-lb test line, will reach depths of 4-5'.... In the clear water these smaller-profile jerkbaits excel, and will attract numbers of trophy smallmouth.
> The other situation...is on...man-made lakes.... You will find largemouth and spotted bass in these areas along with smallmouth, and the key is still to work the 110 Jr extremely fast and erratically. Normally jerkbaits need some hesitation to be productive, but during these months most fish prefer a fast retrieve with little to no pause.
> The difference between fishing jerkbaits in the pre-spawn vs during late summer is that in the pre-spawn, bass tend to suspend in open water not in relation to cover or structure. Bass in the late summer almost always seek some sort of structure to relate to. Some of the best target areas to fish are boat docks, stumps, piers, bridge abutments and rock. Warm-weather bass are triggered by reaction, and as they sit next to these structures, the small profile jerkbaits provide the elements to generate strikes....
> The key is to adjust your color to the water visibility. As a rule of thumb, use the brighter colors such as..."Table Rock SP" in water visibilities of under 2'. In water clarity of over 2', a metallic finish like the "GG threadfin shad" is highly productive.

"It felt like I was taking on King Kong today...."
Man I would LOOOOOVE to catch that much dang bass in 2 days! Or even 10 days! 🤣Anyhow here's some on the water video of those 2 goin' at it:
