Reeeeeeal innerestin' rumor about the newest Minn Kota/'Bird Spot-Lock tech. I have no confirmation so won't say what I heard. But if it's true, your mind will be blown. Looks like they might be announcin' whatever it is tomorrow...? 👀 Here's a hint about what I heard:

Did a bass-head barn-find Rick Clunn's 1984 Classic-winning boat??
|
|
> "...it looked so bad. I decided to take one day and power wash the boat and see what it looked like." After 3 hours...revealing what had to have been a well-cared for craft. What impressed Politte was all the original equipment – the trolling motor, butt seat, lights and Humminbird fish finder with transducer. Even the leather seats were in decent condition.... "I was surprised that it cleaned up that well."
> While Politte thought the decal "Bass Masters Classic" was perhaps a trim package, an old-timer immediately recognized the boat was used in a Classic.
> Rick Clunn: "I just can't say if it was my boat because I don't know."
|
|
"A lotta times you get a little tap and you think it's a brim, but it could be a 5-lb bass and it's actually rolling the sinker."
|
|
> "What you're feeling is that sinker rolling [as the fish picks up the bait]."
Another innerestin' quote – bear in mind this vid is from 1995:
> "In the last 6 years the Carolina rig has probably produced 50% of the bass caught on the tournament trail." [Notice he didn't say wins lol.]
He also said the C-rig revitalized lizard sales big-time, and guys back then used to hold 1-2 fingers on the line coming onto the reel for "extra feel." Here's the baits he laid out:
|
|
"This has been one of the best experiences of my life...making the decision to fish competitively, and then investing all the time and effort and sacrifice necessary to enjoy success."
|
|
Folks are making a big deal about her being a gal, which is cool and great fo sho, but all it does is really prove once again that bass can't tell us fisher-peeps apart man. They don't care, so just fish hard and make it happen!
Love it – congrats to 'em both and all who fished it.

Talk to me about the "perch" color.
|
|
This Rapala pic reminded me that I've wanted to ask this for a while:
|
|
Does the perch/yellow perch color work for you? If so where? (State at least.) Why I'm asking – and I am NOT talking about fire tiger, which is different:
1. Around where I grew up (NJ), lots of lakes have yellow perch.
2. So I've tried yellow perch colors a lot over the years...
3. ...but I've fished it less and less because it doesn't work for me for some reason that I truly do not get.
4. For whatever reason, regular "baitfish" colors work better for me – including that Rapala Original Floater, which has always worked better for me in the old-school silver/black back even in waters with a lot of perch.
5. I guess smallmouth count even though they're dumber, but I'm really talking about largemouths.
So what's your experience? Gonna ask this on social too....

Check the most recent Top 5 of the Week!

If you didn't see it yet, here's the Sea Foam Top 5 in Bass Fishing this (last) week! Hitting:
- Bobby Lane's new nickname?
- Forward Facing Sonar – shallow!
- Different sonar classes needed
- Another Wheeler win!

|

Gonna work in some contests in a couple of these to make it even funnerer...😁

Talkin' dam fishing – good dam info for yo' dam bassin' self! 😁
Watch out for that Okie, he can graph 'em and also ketch 'em without the graphs.
The MotorGuide Tour is the same as the Tour Pro just without the Tour Pro's GPS anchor. Why not have that? James mostly fishes shallow:
> "The MotorGuide Tour is the exact match for the way I like to fish."
Interesting. More info that short IG vid:

4. MI: Saginaw Bay NPFL won by WI's Gary Adkins.
Doesn't say what he won with but he was fishing shallow shoals for smallmouths. Can't link it, at thenationalprofessionalfishingleague com
MN's Steve Lee won it on the upper MS River:
> Fishing mostly the North end of pool 14, Lee pitched and flipped wooded cover that was located on the front sides of islands where the current from the pool 13 dam was pushing against the bank, as well as some eelgrass patches south of takeoff.
> "I would go up to the logjams and I would put the Talons down and would just pick it apart. I would move a little bit and then do the same thing." The bigger bites he got were on the back sides of the logs....
> ...mostly used a green pumpkin Zoom tube rigged on 3/16- or 1/8-oz sinker...
A little:
> Anglers going after bass averaged about 15 bass per boat trip with a catch rate of 1.11 fish per hour, the 4th-lowest May catch rate on record. The average catch rate for May is 1.48 fish per hour.
Guy speaking is in his 70s and has fished there since he was a kid:
> "The river is just completely full of bass right now. In the last 10 years, the bass fishing has been just phenomenal in the river."
8. GSM Outdoors buys 2 more companies.
> Jay has worked in the fishing industry for 16 years, having spent the last 4 years as national sales manager at Savage Gear Americas....

|
12. The New Lunkerhunt Ned Drone looks pretty dang good!
Looks fat 'n juicy, and diggin' the ribs:
|
|
Can apply til July 15.
Here in NJ you could only go as far as...CASTapalooza. EMOJ
...and bass baits:
> "I'm finding those fish stacked up on rock piles and stuff, and they're going to bite if you put a lure in front of them. I'm even skipping jigs up under piers and docks and catching reds and flounder.
> "I fish with a lot of guys who fish those redfish tournaments down here, and they can't believe how I'm catching these fish"....
Nichols is killin' it up north.... I personally believe a Bubba shot would crush stripers too.
...the "National Anglers Assn" – NOT the legit National Professional Anglers Assn – get in touch with the the Ohio Attorney General's Office at OhioProtects.org or 800-282-0515.
Lots of nonsense going on at the federal level, this is a new one – never heard of such a thing before. Not fish but wildlife and crazy:
> In 2020, the US Fish and Wildlife Service listed the black rail [bird] as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act. But the federal agency declined to identify where black rails live, fearing that birders would trample their habitat.
> Now, 2 environmental groups allege in a federal lawsuit the agency erred in keeping potential black rail locations under wraps. ...the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) and Healthy Gulf of New Orleans said...habitat loss, not birders, pose the biggest danger.... And to protect that habitat, you need to identify it....
So the federal gov't tries to say a species is threatened (one step below endangered) but doesn't want to say where it is?? Pretty sure that's not possible under the Endangered Species Act.
And the reason is because of birders, the geeky folks who probably most want to see that species do well??
And that's so backwards that the radical CBD of all places has to call 'em on it??
Amazing and crazy. 🤪

On BassBlaster.rocks right now...

First I have to say that all tubes are stupid. I mean, even with the sexy tentacled bassyness, they're really just pieces of plastic so...😁
|
|
"Unfortunately the increasingly distributive bass fishing tournaments have been detrimental to the enjoyment of the lakes by both local residents and visitors alike."
> "Not only is the day of the tournament obnoxious, but the week of pre-fishing their participants take part in makes it feel like there's a tournament every day leading up to it.
> "Putting 90 bass boats with 150-200 hp motors on Newboro Lake is akin to allowing several dozen racing motorcycles to tear around a small town without regulation or oversight. It's pointless, dangerous and the only beneficiaries are the bass associations and their corporate sponsors.
> "They provide no economic benefit to my marina.... They come in each day fully loaded with all supplies, some (but not all) balk at paying any ramp fees or parking fees, tie up the ramp for hours, and a few bad apples are truly disrespectful to our area and our rules."
Oh boy....
|
|
Please tell me if you know anyone who showed up at a tourney with empty rod lockers. That would be beyond epic.
