1. Everybody’s BP in this derby.
When I was at the St. Lawrence tourney, definitely seemed like the Elites were slapping their foreheads watching Brandon Palaniuk make a long run for basically an extra 1/2-lb per fish and the win.
Was wondering how many guys would make long runs this week at St. Clair/Erie – but not anymore. Sounds like pretty much all (from Bassin’Fan):
> Former tour pro Jon Bondy is guiding on Lake St. Clair today and told BassFan…it looks as if nearly 100% of the field is headed for Lake Erie on day 1 of the St. Clair Bassmaster Elite Series.
> “The big bronzebacks that inhabit St. Clair are not in peak condition – many are long, but almost grotesquely skinny. Four-pounders are hard to come by….”
So is the #1 bassin’ lake in the country…Erie?

2. Root for Edwin!
Edwin Evers is a great fisherman, great guy and is in the driver’s seat to win his first major bass fishing title: Angler of the Year.
He’s got A-Mart and KVD sniffing at his heels, so today will tell the tale. Love all three guys and would love to see any of them win, but EE hasn’t done it yet so rooting for him on this one.
Btw, A-Mart is going for both wins – this derby and AOY:

3. It could be argued that the FLW trail doesn’t have as many name anglers as the Bassmaster trail…but Dion Hibdon, Jay Yelas, Larry Nixon, David Dudley, Clark Wendlandt, Luke Clausen and Scott Martin are among the FLW pros who can fish with anyone in the country.
– Shreveport newspaper writer smackin’ locals for not-so-great attendance at theFLW Cup. He’s right…but long been a fact that you fish B.A.S.S. mostly for exposure, and FLW for checks.
Maybe Shreveporters have ODd from so many derbies held there?
Where’s there’s competition, there’s cheating – sometimes:
> One of these guides said he was fishing the Friday before a redfish tournament and ran into a fish cage with three or four redfish in it under the bushes.
Guess the pet carriers haven’t made it inshore yet…. Not this kinda carrier, but yes these exist – so the wing-nuts can take their fish on a walk!

> When it comes to mats, most people go right for the thickest stuff. But Terry Scroggins finds plenty of fish hiding near the outskirts of mats. “Those are great ambush points and it’s cover that often gets overlooked because they’re small isolated patches….”
> “It’s also easy to cover because it’s a very small target. It’s a high-percentage point that takes hardly any time to fish effectively.”
> He likes a 3/4-ounce Boo Jig with a 3 3/4-inch Yum Craw Chunk easily pushes through the looser vegetation while presenting a large profile that generates big bites. Natural colors like green pumpkin, brown and watermelon work best in clear water, while black/blue or dark neons provide the necessary contrast if the water is stained.
