Weigh-In Pic: Find the Differences

(Click to see bigger – savannahnow.com photo.)

Found an article about guys paying $10K to enter a billfish tourney in Cabo (just a tad more than an Elite Series event) and winning $254,905 by catching just two fish – though those two fish were 560- and 347-pound black marlin (sweet!).

The story wasn’t real interesting, but my eyes kept returning to the above pic of the winners at the weigh-in. Why? Because it’s so different from the current slick, NASCAR-esque bass fishin’ weigh-ins.

The guys just won a quarter-mil, and are standing there in bathing suits and T-shirts with gals in bikins and heels, around a dead fish with a bloody bucket under it.

All I can say is…wow.

Notice any other differences?

The lack of bikini girls is a serious flaw in the bass tournament paradigm.

The biggest difference between this weighin and BASS is that the women seem to be enjoying the weigh-in and the sponsor logos are on the wall not the anglers. These guys look like fishermen, not poster boards for assorted products

The lack of sponsors, nor giveadamn about politically in-correct bikini babes, is because they don’t NEED the money, oh sure they’ll take it, but they have to be loaded with cash just to leave the marina, let alone fish multiple days way offshore. It’s an ego thing. I don’t have a problem with that, and as long as I have my Dramamine, I’ll let them pay for the gas anytime they want to take me out.

I think I was wrong, now that I look closer the difference between this tourney and the Classic is that no one would care how much the fish weighed.
