According to Ed Zieralski of the San Diego Union Tribune, local TV personality and youth-fishing evangelist Dan Hernandez “took a big hit Monday morning” when he found his foundation’s truck was stolen over the weekend.
“This is a very sad day for us and for the kids we serve,†said Hernandez, who said all of the foundation’s equipment that his staff uses for every event is gone. He said two events remain this year, one on Nov. 20 that he expects over 1,500 kids to attend, the other later in the year.
The vehicle, an all-white GMC 1992 box truck, contained pop-ups, generators, fishing rods, registration forms, wristbands, kids’ raffle prizes, cooking equipment, kids’ goodie bags and much more. He is asking for help with donations to hold the next event. Check www.danskids.org.
The foundation’s mission is to “engage youth with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of fishing, with an emphasis on good sportsmanship, environmental awareness, marine sciences, safety and fun. Through fishing the foundation works to build healthier families and stronger communities.â€
If you have any information regarding the truck, contact the Cerritos Sheriff’s Department.

When the perps are found (and the Van!), I say put a Denny Brauer Flipping Hook through their lip and tow them around town for a few days….

Dan truly is one of them people who seem “too good to be true”. I have a feeling all will work out when the word gets out.

Is it not insured? If not, that’s a hard lesson learned.
