You Ready To Rock…the Turtle?!

Don't mess wif Gamera!

Twenty years, give or take. That’s how long I’ve been in the bassin’ biz (I’m not that old!). And I always think I’ve seen it all…until I see something else. The latest installment in this what-will-they-think-of-next bassin’ odyssey is

the Bombshell Turtle.

Yep, turtle. As in, reptile in a box.

Oh – it makes sense. So much sense that you just might buy some.

But it’s still sorta…unbelievable, ain’t it?

You may ask, Why a turtle bait? Lucky for you, the makers of the Bombshell Turtle, Castalia Outdoors, have an answer:

Throughout the history of evolution bass and even saltwater species have aggressively attacked turtles in the wild. Game fish despise egg-raiding turtles in both fresh and salt water and attack juvenile turtles aggressively year-round.

Aggressiveness by largemouth bass toward juvenile turtles has been well documented for more than 35 years in films featuring largemouth bass behavior – bringing many to ask, what took so long to make the lure? [Where are these “many”?!]

Simply put – this patented new lure shape fills a missing link in the standard soft-plastic lure offering.

Okay. Question is, does that make you want to try one?

Yes! I’m that friggin’ insane that I do want to try one. Because part of me believes that there’s always a bass dumb enough to bite what I have on. Could be a dang coconut shell with a treble on it, and some pea-brained mossyback’ll eat it.

That’s another difference between me and KVD. He’s hunting for any bass, but I’m looking only for the dumbest ones.

Go turtles!

A lot of people don’t know this, but the turtle is the original side-imaging unit.

I wonder if they’ll ink an endorsement deal with Bill “Turtle” Lowen! It seems like just a wide bodied lizard or beaver style bait. At three inches, it’s not even as long as a Smallie Beaver. Sure I’ll try some, why not? Nobody thought Brush Hogs would work when they first came out.

I have found small turtle shells twice in the stomach of a largemouth bass. I guess the fish would have eventually digested it. Like a fish bone maybe or a shellfish.

Anyway I thought when I found the turtle shell that the bass messed up. But now I think maybe not.
