Power fishin': Spinnerbaits
These spinnerbaits were designed by another Okie, Edwin Evers, and I gotta say I reeeeally like this one. Not that the other Blades aren't as good, I just haven't fished 'em. I think I own 8 of these particular spinnerbaits – Compacts, not just that color. They track straight, don't roll and hook fish. 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4-oz. Maybe you don't want those skinny blades in colder water but like me you might want that smaller profile.
Googan Squad Bumper
Shouted this one out a little while back in the black/blue, how 'bout that "sunrise craw" color for the spring? New bait for the Googans, double Colorados, 3/8 and 1/2-oz, Mustad hook, double bait keeper and a cool pre-rigged rubber knot stopper to keep your line from sneaking down the wire of the bait.
Jewel Baits Scope Spin
Power fishin': Crankbaits
Key points on this deal:
- Designed to crawl over rocks and bottom structure
- Slow rise off the bottom that allows them to hang in the strike zone longer
- Has the same Frittside "FlashDisc technology" for better stability and accuracy plus balsa-like action
- Will not blow out at high speeds
- Clicking sound
- Berkley Fusion 19 trebles
5 sizes and some REAL nice colors (vanilla chartreuse!). Here's Justin Lucas giving his 2c on 'em:
Did you know the "Gen 2" Deep Flat A doesn't just have new colors, it also has a weight-transfer system...that Jason Christie requested? And these baits are $2.99 on TW right now?? 🤯
Also don't sleep on the Bomber Model 6A in the same color or "red crawfish" which has a chartreuse belly....
Bill Lewis MR6
If you believe that Mark Daniels Jr designs a good crankbait and Bill Lewis can make and paint a good one, here you go! Tight wiggle, flat sides, tapered tail, weight transfer system, low-pitched knock, slow rise.
Lunkerhunt Glitch Blade
Believe this is a first in bassin', a bait that's crankbait (squarebill) on the front half and a blade bait on the back such like:
Just something about that One Knocker sound, maybe something to do with that patented weight system (same as in the old Xcalibur lipless) but nothing sounds exactly like it – the fish say so! 😁
Bill Lewis Knock'n Trap
That's the "red crawfish" and "Newberry craw" colors of this new version of the 'Trap, and yep it comes in more real nice Bill Lewis nice colors.
Honorable Mentionin's
Luhr Jensen Speed Trap – No brainer....VMC trebles.
Berkley Frittside – Another no-brainer. Same for the new clickin' version.
Rapala Shad Rap – Another no-brainer!
SPRO RK Crawler – Sometimes the fish want this more than the Wart so.... One time I asked Mike McClelland, "Hey Mike, how do you spell 'rock'?" He's all, "AC/DC! Why?" I was like, "Nevermind – cool man!" 🤣
Check this quote from Bassin' Hall of Fame writer Steve Quinn:
> "In my former career as a fishery biologist, I always marveled that a good percentage of lunkers we caught by electrofishing in early spring had the tails of big gizzard shad (10-12") sticking out of their gullets."
Dang Steve you're enabling Chris Zaldain! And Brandon Palaniuk! And other fellers! 😁
Real innerestin' eh? Here's some stuff that might not get that big but.... I am for sure not a big swimbait guy so this is a combo of some stuff I've heard works and stuff that caught my eye.
Scottsboro Swimbaits
One of the most-fished swimbaits by Southeastern tourney dudes, including one David Mullins ("Mullins madness" ^).
Berkley Powerbait Hollow Belly
One of the best "mass-produced" swimbaits, and they come in sorta "photographic" HD colors like that one ^ which is "HD blueback herring."
Basstrix Paddle Tail
One of the best paddletails, maybe the best....
Bacca Burrito
5" and 6" soft swimbaits that apparently are so good that Bull Shad had to step in and help with production....
Jenko Booty Shaker
A hand-poured swimbait peeps seem to like – 3.5", 4", 5" and 6".
Baitsanity Antidote TUG Glide Bait
How cool does this sound:
> The Antidote TUG Glide Bait features Baitsanity's Glide-Leap system that relies on a sliding weight to allow the bait to leap to the surface on an aggressive twitch and swim underwater on a steady retrieve. This system gives anglers the ability to target fish with explosive topwater action or transition to a more traditional subsurface gliding motion....
9", even comes in a bass pattern, $139.99 at TW.
Honorable Mentionin's
10,000 Fish Head Hunter – Pre-rigged bluegill swimbait that rests head down.
FishLab Soft Bio Gill – Soft version of this bait, also good in and around beds...and elsewhere....
6th Sense Divine and new Whale swimbaits
Storm Arashi Glide – Used to be one of Brandon Palaniuk's faves.
Deps Slide Swimmer – Butch Brown, 'nuff said.
River2Sea S-Waver
Jerry Rago Top Hook Mini BV3D Pro – "Mini" is 5.5"! Smaller version of the bait Byron Velvick used to win at Clear Lake in 2010.
Geecrack Bellows Gill Swimmer
Mattlures Dead Twitch Trout – 14" and 13 oz, it's only for the bigs! Still think the Mattlures Upside Dead Stick is genius:

Okay not really "power" fishing, sorta more "finesse" but I left 'em outta part 1. I think this is one category where pretty much every serious bass fisherman knows what the best ones are but here we go anyway:
Berkley Stunna 112
Very good jerkbait, good price ($9.99) and that "ghost sexy shad" color apparently is the deal. I have one in the regular and deep, haven't fished 'em yet but can't wait to!
Rapala Shadow Rap Shad
Bill Lewis went all in with this intro, not launching just 1 bait but 6: 2 sizes and 3 types (floating, sinking and suspending). Of course as the name indicates this bait was designed to show up better on forward-facing (or any) sonar, and not just the flattened "wider" sides – the action is different too. It "flashes" sideways more, which again makes it easier to see on sonar but Live sonar isn't required to catch fish with it.

Mark Menendez jerkbaitin' tips
Some highlights from this 3.5-minute Seaguar vid:
> Likes a deep/+1 version for real early spring (under 55).
> "The softer the jerk, the longer the pause...which can be up to 15 or 30 seconds." 😬
> No sun = white bait, bright day = chrome.
> Goes from 2 jerks to 3 and a regular (depth) jerkbait when the water T gets to 55+.
> He likes Seaguar InvizX fluoro because it helps him feel that real subtle "tick" of a bite.

Saw one of these in person at Vexus in Dec and I gotta say it was real nice. Each time Vexus comes out with a new model or a new model year rolls around, they're improving something so this boat has some cool stuff and could/would be a great bass rig.
Same features as the hybrid tin/glass AVX1980 bassin' rig which I have:
> Almost 20', quiet Hush Hull design dampens sound (no real hull slap), glass-type ride/feel, SeaStar Pro hydraulic steering.
> Front deck is 12" wider at the forward seat bases than similar sized rigs.
> Multiple gear boxes and the port rod box can handle 9' rods.
Way too many cool deets to mention – gitcha a Vexus ride!
Sea Foam Marine PRO
Here's your friendly reminder about Sea Foam Marine PRO especially if you have gas in the tank that's been a-sittin':
> Ron H in AR's #SeaFoamWorks story: "Got ahold of some bad gas about the time I had hip replacement surgery, so my boat didn't get used for a while. I didn't realize it until I was fishing a tournament and had problems. Finally ordered some Sea Foam Marine PRO and put 2 cans in, 1 in each tank – been running great since! Now I keep some on standby."

If you don't need the world's fanciest electronics system and are kinda doing your best with different manufacturers for this and that like I am, the MotorGuide Tour Pro with the important GPS Anchor Lock is about $1,000 less than the other ones so....
