> "Just always anytime a new technique comes up I try to figure out how to tweak it. Not only a technique but also a bait. When I find a bait I like, I try to adapt it to new similar things, what I can make it do different. Obviously the jighead minnow is big these days....
> "Every single person fishing is throwing it. It's good, but it's not as good as it was. It's not what it was a year ago.
> "Me and Jon from Greenfish were playing around and said, What if we did this? We got to talking about [Elite rookie] Tyler Williams – he doesn't throw a minnow [with FFS], he throws a jig.
> "We tied a couple up, and Caleb Hudson – he used to work for Greenfish, he's fishing the Opens next year, he's a super Scoper...[he] took a couple of them, went out and fell in love with jt.
> "...it's a bigger profile, it has a little bit more action – a different action. Another thing it does is it slows down the fall and the forward movement. And to me, slowing down the forward movement is what I like about it best. Plus the bigger profile."
Foller-up: Did putting stands on it have anything to do with fuzzy dice phenomenon?
> "I don't know. We had it a for a year [before releasing it]. Thinking back I don't really think it did, but there are some other baits we're working on that are inspired by that."
2. You said that it slows down forward movement and sinks slower – can you describe how much slower?
> "Obviously it depends on weight size...but I would say probably 15% slower."
3. What's your fave trailer to pair up with it?
> "Really any minnow-style bait, but the Z-Man Scented Jerk Shadz is one of my favorites for sure, and I've got some prototypes that I've been using as well.
> "...really all sizes, but the 3.5 and 4-inch are my go-tos. Obviously if I'm fishing a lake with bigger baitfish I might step it up to 5 inches."
Foller-up: What's the rest of your Tutu rig?
> "A 6' 10" XF ML Ark Invoker Tour [spin] Rod, Ark G5 Reel (3000), and Sunline Almight Sinking Braid – I use the 18.5-lb – to 8-12 lb Sunline FC Sniper fluoro. I use 10-lb more than anything.
> "I've used that Almight for about a year now, and about 6 months in I really started noticing that sinking braid is absolutely phenomenal. Over the years I've used probably 20 different braids, and this sinking braid is amazing because it's more direct.
> "With a standard braid you have more of a bow in your line, and whenever you go to set the hook – even though braid has no stretch – you're still picking up that bow in the line. With the sinking braid it's far more direct."
4. Is this jighead gonna make it easier for you not to suck out there? 😁 [His motto is "don't suck."]
> "Well call me dumb, call me sticking to my beliefs, I don't know what you want to call it but – I'm not a FFS fan. ...I don't do it nearly as much as I should. Of course there's some tournaments – like smallmouth tournaments – where that's 100% of what I do. But if I have options that I've been doing my whole life, I do those.
> "I think if I would embrace it I'd do better, but it's hard for me to embrace."
5. You had your Aqua-Vu cam out lately?
> "I haven't been out lately! I fished a tournament at Hartwell.... But it's fixing to be striper season, pretty much the week after Thanksgiving, and I'm definitely gonna be dropping it down and looking at some of those stripers with it – to see how big they are. There's always these different schools of fish, and they basically group up in sizes."
Says he uses the Aqua-Vu Micro Revolution 5.0 HD, which is still just $350 on TW.
