Got out for a couple hours yesterday, took my wife because it was perfect weather. She loved being on her phone in nature (lol), my dog just loved being outside and I dug it too even tho we were on the stingiest lake maybe in the world (wah).
Anyhow, caught that 1 dink smallie so I did not live up to the BB sayin' on my YETI bottle ( the 46-oz Rambler, the biggest size)! 😁
|
|
Got it on the Catch Co Tight Rope Baby Firework Super Jig (summer craw) and the all-important Berkley MaxScent Meaty Chunk (gp party). Somehow the Chunk fell off and sank, and I kid you not I almost dove in after it – I only have 1 pack! My wife was wonderin' WTHeck I was about to do, and could not understand a thing I said about MaxScent, scarcity, trading for bullets and whatnot. 😂
➡️Bassin' biz peeps:⬅️ If you have something that's all that and will be at ICAST, please lmk! Love to stop by if I can.

BOOOOOOM! Brunswick buys Lowrance!!
|
|
Official rundown below, but the bottom line is that Brunswick – a public company that owns several boat companies and other stuff like Merc and MotorGuide – now owns MAJOR 'lectronics...cuz as we all know, right now electronics are the hottest deal in boating, and everyone's after the whole "interconnected systems" thing.
Puts to bed the "issue" (not really?) about MotorGuide bein' a lone ranger I guess:
> Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Navico...for $1.05 bil. As a result of this acquisition, Brunswick will add the industry leading brands of Lowrance, Simrad, B&G and C-MAP to its Advanced Systems Group (ASG)....
> The closing of the transaction is anticipated during the second half of 2021 and is subject to usual and customary closing conditions as well as regulatory review and approval.
No idea how long this has been in process, but gotta think it was hugely important to Brunswick because they're I assume buyin' at a high price – based on everyone in fishing killing it the last 12-15 months.

Is Justin Lucas fixin' to win again in smallmouth country?
|
|
👀👀 You be lookin' at the new/not yet out MaxScent Lil' General in the "gobyashi" color. Oh snap.
I'll say this as "not a Ned guy" – I'd use it on the back of a smaller jig all day long:
|
|
Here's info on a couple more Berkley MaxScent deals coming...save your $$ bass-heads!
> New this year, Berkley has added a larger 4.25" size [of MaxScent Flatworm] to compliment the popular 3" size.... They have also added 4 new colors: gobyashi, cinnamon purple, gp/watermelon and smelt.
> ...also added a totally new bait to the PowerBait MaxScent line with the MaxScent Tube. ...combines ultra-realistic texture and natural matte colors...available in two sizes (2.5" and 3.5") and 10 colors: black red leck, black blue fleck, breen green, goby, green pumpkin, lucky penny, smoke silver, watermelon red, watermelon vapor and white pearl.
|
|
Unofficial word is some guys have bought bear suits to try and get into Justin's stash – they know he's got a security cam on at all times....
Okay I just made that up. But it reminds me that the Hack Attack sent me this pic – what do you think?
|
|
Great 😂 quotes from these gal champs!
|
|
> Lainie: "It is very exciting. I've always wanted to win one of these because you get this cool trophy and stand up on that stage. It is awesome."
> Sarah: "It is amazing. Walking across that stage and seeing everyone...being girls is the best part. You can show that girls can do the same as boys. They are all just staring at you, and we are like, 'We got fish just like you do.' It's awesome."
Hahaha love it! Here's a little mind-bender for ya:
> ...they caught their fish around grass in shallow areas of Saginaw Bay. "We started flipping jigs and throwing Pop-Rs and they started blowing up. We went to our next spot and it got a little rough, but it was manageable. They started blowing up and they were all in the grass."
When's the last time you a) heard of HS folks fishing Pop-Rs? and b) heard of a MI smallie ever seing a Pop-R? MI peeps what up??

What your sig O or "a friend" needs to enjoy a hot bassin' day.
|
|
Ain't talkin' cold drinks or sunblock! Seen on Lee Livesay's boat:
|
|
Not sure it'll be so good on windy days, but anyhow who makes it? Anyone know?
|
|
Some frogs have these kinda cheeks??
|
|
🤣 Shoot who knew they could stand on 2 legs either??
Not sure where the pic is from...might argue for re-examining the anatomy of frog baits, and maybe how attractive they are to bass??
|
|
Just before the smallie swing – said they refuse to fish dropshots or Ned rigs because they're "dumb" and "it's not really bass fishing."
😁 Okay just kidding, here's what up:
Rick Morris says he has health issues and just can't do it physically right now, and won't fish the Elites in '22.
Brett Preuett says he's got too much going on at home (I think biz-wise) and it's been a distraction to him.
Hope they're all okay and Clent's surgery goes well.
I have no idea how to explain this but can say I've never seen a shot like this before. That's B.A.S.S. PR gal extraordinaire Emily Harley with Hank:
|
|
Had high water there so maybe they're actually on a sidewalk or something??
Oil change gone wrong? Looks like a hospital visit and stitches, hope he's good to go for NY....
I was like, "Bill these deals are totally the wrong color so please send 'em to me for proper disposal." 😆
|
|
Didn't even get dirty doing it either...unless he maybe cleaned up for the photo? 🤔
|
|
Lookit that smile man...Wes is a stone cold killa. Had no idea.
Wow! Real glad he's okay:
> Late Monday afternoon, while practicing for an upcoming collegiate bass fishing event on Lay Lake in AL, McKendree U angler Trevor McKinney was struck by lightning out on the water.
> McKinney and fellow teammate Blake Jackson were running back to the boat ramp ahead of an incoming storm when their boat was struck by lightning. The anglers made it back to the ramp safely, and McKinney was fully checked out by EMS and given the all-clear before leaving the lake.
> "It was something that you'd never expect just driving down the lake. Honestly, it felt like somebody shot me with a taser. My body just kind of froze up. For an hour afterwards I was just kind of shaking."
First time was:
> "I was on Kentucky Lake one day, and the same thing happened. The dock that we sought shelter in, it probably wasn't smart at the time, was a metal dock. I grabbed ahold of it to pull our boat up under it. Right as I did, lightning struck. This huge blue light popped the dock, nailed it, and it nailed me."
Get this – it's actually National Lightning Safety Awareness Week??
You might remember Trevor just competed in the Classic.
National Weather Service says the odds of getting hit in our lifetime are 1 in 15,300. No way...?
First I was real stoked for him, but then I saw they're 4 SPIN rods. Then I cried a little...might have said a bad word...🤣 Just messin', here they are:
6' 10" shakey/dropshot rod
7' multi-purpose
7' 2" tube-crackin' special
7' 4" power finesse
I wanna try the tube cracker. Other than that, Zona's just like the rest of us: REALLY particular about his stuff, and he's also a REALLY good fisherman. Did I say he's crazy? He's definitely crazy, but not sure that matters here...😁 Z!
8. NJ: Greenwood Lake no longer has public access??
Lake's good for NJ, straddles NJ/NY, talkin' only the NJ side. Sounds like ALL the NJ marinas are not allowing access to their ramps? So what happens when a public lake can't be accessed by the public? Or maybe you can get on but they want a $30-50 launch fee??
Sounds like the NJ DNR hasn't weighed in yet. Bad deal right now....
> Inflowing water today is 10,000 acre-ft less than outflow. The parched Southwest really needs monsoon rain to fall this summer.
> Be careful when traveling on the lake. Stay in the middle of the main channel to ensure a safe trip.
Not just the tourney but I think it says the effect of that + more bassin' thru June.
Lookin' good! Other limited-quantity paints at that link too, couple Normans....
|
|
13. Look what showed up at my door today.
👀
|
|
Same deal, vote or no complainin'! Good luck to 'em!
DNR says so but:
> ...recently surveyed...and found a healthy bass population as we captured over 100 largemouth bass with an average length just shy of 13". The largest largemouth captured measured over 15" and numerous individuals weighed over 2 lbs.
Doesn't sound so good?
Walleyes too. Not supposed to be there. Hattie is a trout lake ➡️ huge smallies??
I think that's what this Kickstarter deal is saying/showing? Can watch the vid there, here's a graphic:
|
|
If so that's pretty cool.... Had to use one yesterday to save a JackHammer....
Doesn't say what it's made of, but supposed to last a year and in 7 years becomes "biomass."
Huntsville, July 10, 1-4 pm. Recently found out he's in outdoor media...interesting....
Still think this might be a way to get rid of Asian carp? On the other hand, messing with viruses doesn't seem like a wise thing to do....
WTHeck is going on with all these critter diseases? Chronic wasting disease, etc? Seems like a bunch over the last few years?
Just a designation meaning it's bad, zebras now in 32 TX lakes:
> ...Lake Brownwood, Inks Lake and Medina Lake in the Colorado and San Antonio River basins....
Headline of the Day
Here's Field & Stream's "next level secrets":
1. Find unpressured waters that grow huge fish
2. Target big smallmouths at the right times
3. Use the right presentations
4. Focus on the best conditions for big fish
5. Keep learning every time out
🙄 Ain't never clickin' on a F&S link ever again man dang....
Line of the Day
Say what?? Okay technically yes bass will eat stuff off the bottom but they sure ain't "bottom feeders"!!
PSA
No idea who's behind it but it looks like they will take your $$ in exchange for real pretty handmade baits such like:

On BassBlaster.rocks right now...

If you're like me – too little feeshn time and patience – this makes a lotta sense. I also dig it because you can give 'em a real "x their eyes" hookset, which I have trouble NOT doing. From the MLFers site:
> ...when a lot of anglers will catch fish throwing a weightless wacky worm like The General...I also like to be rigged and ready to show the bass something different, like a Berkley Pit Boss behind a heavy sinker.
> The heavy weight makes the Pit Boss fall really fast – so fast that it often generates a reaction strike...they have to eat it or get out of the way. Whereas a lot of anglers would fish it behind a 1/4- or 3/8-oz sinker, I'll bump it up to 1/2- or 3/4-oz to really speed up the fall.
> This is a great presentation in water that's 8' deep or less and that has visibility of 12-14" or a little more.
> My favorite bait for this pattern is the 4" Pit Boss in green pumpkin. I like to Texas-rig it...on a 3/0 straight-shank Berkley Fusion19 worm hook.
> ...remember that you're looking for a reaction strike – not a feeding strike. 90% of your bites are going to come before the bait hits the bottom. Once it gets to the bottom, you can hop it once or twice, but you're generally better off to crank it in and quickly make another pitch.
|
|
"It's like the buzzards swarming around me. It's like I died, but I didn't."
> "Matt Herren called asking for all my Flat Worms. Had one call asking for my hair jigs, one call asking for my spinning reels. My cousin asked if he could have one of my Lowrance fishfinders."
That's pretty funny! Tho Clent might not think so right now...?

> The research, published in Neotropical Biodiversity, details the finding of Pristimantis ledzeppelin, or Led Zeppelin's Rain Frog, a tree frog found in Ecuador.
That's how you do it scientist peeps! Looks basically like a bumpy leopard frog. For a little celly, here's Led Zep's "Fool in the Rain" – has one of the greatest (and hardest to play) drum parts of all time.
