How Good Is This PAA Discount?

Got a news release yesterday, the PAA announcing a “new affinity membership level.” Sounded like a smart idea, but that’s not what got me. It was the first paragraph:

“One great benefit of being a member of the Professional Anglers Association is the Affinity Program that provides discounts on a wide range of fishing, boating and vehicle accessories, hotel rates and tackle.”

Discounts? Tackle?

I immediately typed a note to my informant at the PAA (kidding), who says he can’t hip me to the exact discounts but pointed me to this post by PAA program director Danny Blandford. In it Danny outfits himself and totes up the savings. Here are the tackle highlights:

> Two new Carrot Stix rods (saving $50 each for a $100 total)

> Two new USReel SC800 baitcasting reels ($20 each/$40 total)

> $100 of Berkley fluorocarbon, monofilament and braided line ($33 savings)

> $100 of new Secret Lures, because the MVP Finesse Jig and the Tail Shaker are a must around here where I fish, and I love to sling the Chubby Frog ($30 savings)

> $50 in Lunker Lure buzzbaits ($12.50 in savings)

> $100 of TroKar hooks…they’re crazy sharp and a great deal ($40 savings)

There’s more there, but on the face of it a $20 affinity membership sounds like a no-brainer. (If I’m missing something, someone let me know. Wouldn’t be the first time….)

Deets:

> For just $20 a year, Affinity Level members receive a membership card, PAA decals for your truck or boat and access to a growing list of 50 partners in the Affinity Program.
