Know anyone that could use a good word? Anyone struggling? Anyone ultra busy? Anyone look stressed? Has the Lord put on your heart to call or visit or fish with someone? If so, how 'bout do it and give 'em a word from your heart. Encourage them! I really believe us peeps are almost limitless with encouragement. It's a form of love, of course.
Reminded of this when I prayed with my accountant today. He's a bass-head (and reads the BB – love ya Bob!), he's a brother in Christ and man he needed to hear it – and I didn't know that! I just "felt" like some stuff needed to be said. Whether you know God or not, I know you know that feeling!
Bless all you accountants/numbers folks out there jammin' through this season, and dealing with the semi-vacant IRS and whatever other nonsense pops up. You are appreciated!

Here comes finesse BAITCASTIN'!
|
|
Boom! Tellin' ya, you don't need spinning rods IF you don't want to use 'em. I prefer not to use 'em because of line twist – and maybe I'm lazy but I just wanna take a rod outta the locker and use it, not de-twist the line first or whatever. And I wanna set the hook like I'm trying to get a piece o' raw meat away from a lion! 😁
Anyhow, you've already seen a trend to smaller/more compact casting reels and lighter and lighter rods. Abu Garcia (and a few others) have been coming out with ultra-light but full (ish) size reels, and now Shimano has a Bait Finesse System that it basically brought over from Japan. Deets from TackleTour.com:
> The roots of BFS stem from Japan where enthusiast level bass anglers needed a tool to coax pressured fish into biting yet, have the power and control to pull them from their abrasive hiding spots. The clear water and high pressure from anglers make the fish very weary to any presence of anglers.
> Using midweight fluorocarbon such as 7-9lb is difficult to manage on spinning reels and the difficulty to control the lure's splash when it hits the water is why anglers decided a baitcasting reel is right tool for the job.
> Being able to cast lighter lures with a baitcasting reel also found its way to the streams of Japan among trout anglers. The need for increased accuracy and lure control during flight is what drove the trout angling community to start using BFS reels.
> One benefit of BFS is that the nature of the line flowing off a baitcasting spool allows for less twisting of the line. This is especially important when using fluorocarbon or monofilament lines. Wind knots are also less prevalent when using baitcasting gear.
> ...utilizes an ultra-lightweight, shallow spool designed for thinner-diameter lines to allow anglers to cast lightweight lures more effectively than traditional low-profile models.
> The Curado BFS incorporates Shimano's Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) system to reduce the spool's weight by moving the braking unit from the spool to the palming side-plate. The result: the spool takes minimal force to turn and allows anglers to effectively cast lightweight tackle.
> Unlike traditional magnetic brake systems that maintain the same drag on the spool throughout the cast, Shimano's FTB capitalizes on the cast's centrifugal force and the magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool only when braking is needed.
|
|
> Casting distance is often reduced with BFS gear. With the use of brakes to prevent backlashes, this force takes away from the momentum that the lure has in the air during the cast. Conversely, a spinning reel has a fixed spool and the line feeds off the spool without risk of backlashing. This adds to a stress-free and distance unimpeded by braking.
Don't know about you but when I think of light rigs, it's mostly for deeper water – so long casts don't really matter. Either way, if lots of manufacturers get on this bandwagon, for sure bass-heads will figure out what the best use of 'em is! So far only Gollum is against the lighter stuff but honestly something's real wrong with that dude/thing:

Abu MLF College Fort Gibson, OK top 10 baits breakdown.

Do college "kids" know what's up? Dang straight they do. Congrats to Kaden Proffitt and Cason Ragsdale of East Texas Baptist U for winnin' the deal...
|
|
10% each = Flip plastic, Jerkbait, Tube
Wanted to do a top 10 baits breakdown, didn't see any top 10 baits for the Open or 'Yota so there you go!

Any idea what we're looking at here?
|
|
"I catch all my fish on H&H spinnerbaits because that's all I use."
|
|
You show up at the dock and here's your guide – what do you do?
|
|
Obviously whatever he tells you to do mang! 😁 Just messin'. That's 77-yr-old ON guide Frank Kuiack who defies conventional health wisdom by smokin' and eatin' bacon fried in lard. Maybe fishing every day keeps him healthy? Keep after 'em Mr Frank!

20 points ahead of David Mullins. Forgot to mention that John fished the MLF Redcrest with NO electronics. None. Zero. Who doesn't love that guy?
Keep an eye on WI rookie Jay Przekurat, 9th in the points.
...based on hand-pours. 👀
Real nice and REAL clean. Makes me want one! Big fan of G's Insta. Shows what a real and "normal" marriage is like – love, warts and all. Needed in this time, in my 2c. Love it and thanks to 'em both for being honest and even a little bit vulnerable...and funny!

Cooper Gallant won the Cherokee, TN Southern Open and has signed onto the Canadian declaration of war on US bass...😁 How he caught 'em:
> With water temperatures cooler than expected, Gallant focused on deep rock structure between 15 and 30 feet...where pre-spawn smallmouth were staging....
> The best smallmouth he caught came from about 23'.... With 20 spots to choose from, ranging from rock flats and rockpiles to boulders and main-lake points, he would move until he found a group of bass that were willing to bite.
> He said could not see his bass on his Garmin LiveScope. "They were hunkering down and waiting to move up. You wouldn't see them on LiveScope. You just had to fish around and you would see them rise from the bottom. I would just fish where I thought they would be."
Know what's weird? Canadians look just like us...🤯😁
Yep he's from TN! I mean, did his parents like 'em some whiskey or what! 🤷🏻♂️ Okay I have no idea, all good, and his real name (far as I know) is Jack Daniel Williams – and he caught 'em Scoping:
> Williams targeted Dale Hollow's schools...3.5" swimbait rigged on a 1/4-oz jighead. ...made targeted casts aided by his sonar to specific single fish or pods of fish to initiate strikes. "The warmer weather made the bait come up and that's when I'd use a lighter head, with a slower fall to keep it in front of their face."

|
He shouted out Bob E Lane on the win:
> "This [story] is was from when I was young, maybe 16. I was on my home lake [for another major tournament], and I zeroed, and he said, 'do you know what I did on my home lake my first major event? Last place, don't you ever give up.'"
#stout
He had ex Bassmaster pro and still friend of mine Mike Auten on, and Kevin amazingly remembered going to an amp store with Mike and I one Classic way back, and said I was rippin' on the axes. He sure wasn't shoutin' out my fish'n skillz...🤣 Appreciate ya Baxter!
Kevin and Mike used to work together, both good people, just one of 'em ain't right...and Mark Menendez knows which one! 😆
> On Thursday, Black River Lake, Lake Concordia and Lake St. John each will receive 250,000 pure FL largemouth bass fry.
East Kentucky Tournament Trail:
> The study was conducted by swabbing the mouths of any caught fish in an effort to prove that hybridization has occurred...between the northern largemouth bass and the FL largemouth bass.
> Kinner and McCann believe, based on Fish and Wildlife research in 1988-91 and 2003-04, that Florida Largemouth Bass DNA is already present in Paintsville Lake. This means that the F1 hybrid species will not be a new introduction to the region, but stocking the lake would strengthen the existing hybrid DNA.
> "We already believe that there is a percentage of Florida genetics here. We hope this study helps prove that and give us a baseline to get to our goal of 50%-50% hybrids."
Lovin' it, another limited run from the Lurenet Paint Shop:

The Norman Deep Tiny N in "polished craw" looks sweet too....
Haven't had one in my hands yet, but to me the interesting parts are the "wings" on the side and the little trough for the eye of a tube jighead:
|
|
Not at TW yet, for now you can only get 'em here. I like "gp orange craw" and "goby smoke" the best. BioSpawn says the VileTube is designed to be fished on a 1/8-1/2 oz tube jig, or a 3/0-5/0 hook Texas-rigged.
I'm glad and mad at Tackle Warehouse and Z-Man over this deal – cuz I have to get them all!
|
|
Also mad at Brett Hite and Morizo Shimizu...😤
Nice! Was Mid Michigan Community College.
Brian Drendel, current prez of the IL Bass Fishing Coaches Assn, for being a keystone in IL's HS bass fishing program.
Dave Lewonczyk writin' on a PA site:
> ...when the water temperature gets around 70 degrees, I can't wait to throw a 10" rubber worm. Specifically a 10" rubber worm on a shakey head. If you are thinking I have lost my mind, I haven't. I can assure you it will catch a 2- or 3-lb bass...difference is if a 2- and 7-lb bass are eyeing the worm, chances are the 7-lb bass will grab it first.
> ...Powerbait scent is not just an advertising come-on. I rarely miss a fish on a Powerbait [Power] Worm because they hit it on the drop. They truly hang on to the worm longer.
> Anglers that call in the tag information or return the tag will receive a custom ball cap with an image of a shoal bass, some native black bass stickers, and will be entered into a drawing that will be conducted at the end of each year.
...invasive New Zealand mud snails found in the hatchery.
20. Crappie pros crushing records with forward-facing sonar.
Can't link it but it's at louisianasportsman com:
> Matthew and Bruce Rogers, of El Dorado Springs, MO, battled freezing temperatures, high winds and a field of 170 boats to catch an astonishing 14-fish limit weighing 44.71 lbs – which was 2.71 lbs more than the 2nd place team of Brett and Robert Luther – to get the win in the Crappie Masters Grenada Lake National Qualifier on Mar 11-12.
Check those conditions – and that's an average weight of 3.19 lbs per crappie. 🤯 Big fish was a 4.26. Crazy!
Lol, all good!
> Camp will oversee Yamaha Marine advertising, events, tournaments and sponsorships, Yamaha pro staff and Yamaha Marine dealer education. She succeeds Dale Barnes, who retired in March of 2022.
Headlines of the Day
If that's even almost true, why is that? Gotta be low cost of ownership/participation, right? What you say yak peeps?
😬 So many questions on this one....

> A Shut Down Jig is a jig with a short shank, stout hook and a compact profile that represents a smaller crawdad to bass that have been pressured by the angler himself, or scores of anglers.
> "This is my go-to bait when the bite gets tough [like on a deep spot, after cranking it]. I really don't like to scale down with a shakey head, so I prefer to use a lure I can move quickly and still have a chance at a big bite...War Eagle Heavy Finesse Jig is that lure." ...likes to pair it with the 3" Berkley Chigger Craw....
> If he feels like there are numerous bass [still in that] school, he tends to hop or slightly stroke the jig. "I've seemed to have more success by targeting the competitive nature of bigger schools this way.
> "...at Guntersville in 2010. I was on a spot throwing crankbaits and conventional jigs and catching them pretty good...they stopped biting. I tried a few other things, but when I picked up my little Heavy Finesse Jig, I caught a 7 lb 8-oz largemouth on my next cast."
> ...2nd place finish at Bull Shoals...on a medium-diving crankbait bite, but the breezy conditions slicked off.... "The crankbait had put 12 lbs in my boat in the morning, but I didn't get a bite on it after the conditions changed. I took out my Heavy Finesse jig and culled up to 15 pounds. If I didn't do that, I don't finish 2nd at that tournament."

"We not only want them to grow in wisdom, stature and favor as men of God, but we also want them to win some fishing tournaments."
> "They want to win."

I keep looking at this shot and I think it's the colors – something about 'em I dig, that tan/bronze-lookin' bass with that red bait. Who knows. Anyhow that bait's a Lunkerhunt Impact Jolt (turbo craw), which is a rattlin' flatside squarebill:

Was telling a friend of a friend, also a guit-slinger, that I have a little musical dilemma: The Lord changed my heart and I just can't get into playing the same ol'...except Van Halen, which isn't dark or boring. He told me about this preacher/worship guy who kinda went through the same thing and this is the tune he sent me: "Let Your Glory Shine."
It RIPS! Was hoping everything else Lincoln did would be like that, but it's not...but it does give me hope man! Hope you dig it – and here's how I know Lincoln knows what's up – from his Insta: 💪
