If you’re getting the BassBlaster for the first time it’s because a bud signed you up!
Today’s Top 5
Forgot to run this 10.5 caught a couple weeks back at Goose Hummock, a pond on Cape Cod, MA — which if you’re from there is pronounced “Cape Cawd:”
Full fishin’ deets at this link, but here’s the bait info:
Chris Lane
> “I caught them on topwaters – including a Snag Proof Ish’s Phat Frog (white) and – flipping a Luck E Strike Drop Dead Craw (Okeechobee craw). I rigged the craw on a 4/0 Trokar Flippin Hook with a 1/2-oz XPS tungsten weight.”

…or actually voice stress analyzers, and his personal experience with same. Full writin’s — innerestin’ as always — on BassBlaster.rocks, but here’s an exy-cerpt or two:
> I don’t believe for a minute that Clausen was singled out or railroaded by B.A.S.S. or anyone within the B.A.S.S. organization While there may be people in the B.A.S.S. org who hold grudges, Trip Weldon and Chuck Harbin are not those guys. Period.
> As for the appeals process B.A.S.S. uses, I’ve been a part of that process and it too is about as fair and simple as you can get.
> So for all those who see black helicopters, second shooters from the grassy knoll, and Trip Weldon with horns and a pitchfork, just drop it. It ain’t happening. There may be some aspects of the B.A.S.S. machine that I have issues with, but the way Trip and Chuck run the Elite Series from a rules and regulations standpoint is not one of them. Scads of that respect from me in that area.
> “My co-angler Friday at the Costa series event heard someone say GO and didn’t look back and took off before I was on the trailer!! If you’re a co-angler pay attention!! Destroyed the bottom of my motor! Lower unit fell off once we got out of water!”
Won’t let someone I don’t know help me load or unload. You?
News
Huge. Happy for him, fishing well. Apparently a big Remington fam, that’s Bill in the red suit:
3. Davy Hite’s kid had a 5.1 GPA??
Must’ve gotten that from Natalie…lol jk Davy! Seriously tho, another great story told by db, and thank you to the Hites and all of you who are either in harm’s way or are related to those who fight our country’s battles.
You guys are #stout — thank you. Couldn’t find a good stout for it, but you get it:
> Shaun Bailey of Lake Havasu City and Mike Williams of Phoenix pulled out a narrow win, claiming top spot and $5,700 with a total weight of 25.52 for their full 7-fish limit.
> In the morning, the team targeted brushpiles in 5-15′ with a dropshot rigged with a 6″ Roboworm (red crawler). “We caught a lot of fish on the dropshot — a lot of 2-lbers.”
> In the afternoon…threw a Carolina rig on deeper rocky points in 15-25′. “We got one with a Paca Craw and one with an Evergreen Double Motion, both in green pumpkin.”
6. PA: Susquehanna actually fishing great?
Fishing may be good but water quality not so much:
> “The river is not recovering at the rate that it should. It’s not back to where it was. It’s not back to baseline. …we can’t let our guard down.”
Not sure if this in in PA or on Jupiter:
9. IL: Tryouts for Highland HS bassin’ team.
How?
> Tryouts will consist of a knot tying and casting evaluation and possible mini-intramural tournaments. For the tryout, bring your gear, and be ready to tie both a palomar and Trilene knot. Also be ready to pitch, roll cast, and overhand cast.
Raise your hand if you couldn’t make the team lol
10. FL: FLW offering grants for new HS clubs.
Love how they already know how to hold up dinks for max effect:
10K Yuan = $1,526.93. Thought they had all the coin over there….
12. A peek at Picachos, Mexico.
Sounds like stupid fishing, of course. Skip the first 10 paragraphs at that link.
13. Outboard boat sales up 14.4%.
14. LA: Dude’s Toyota Tundra goes 1 mil miles.
Just regular maintenance. (Why I’m getting a Sequoia soon.) Toyota wanted to dissect it, so traded him a new one for it.
15. Cool tip from Z: Cracking a tube.
> Cracking is much more like jerking a tube like you would a jerkbait, except you want to keep the tube contacting the bottom and you only want the tube to hop 3-6″ at a time — not 3-6′ at a time.
> Cracking involves holding your rod in about the 9 o’clock position and simply popping the slack in your line in a repetitive rhythm while turning the reel handle about a quarter of a turn with each pop. When done correctly, the line will make a snapping or cracking sound with each sharp twitch of the rod and your tube will hop, hop, hop only a few inches at a time along the bottom.
He likes 3.5″ Strike King Coffee Tubes in gp.
16. Facebook represses “conservative” news.
Raise yer hand if’n yer surprised.
Tip of the Day
A few solid ones:
> If you mark a spot that’s full of fish one day but go back the next day to the same spot and things have changed, you need to change. It’s a waypoint, not a fish.
> Don’t spend all your time staring at your screen. Pay attention to what’s going on around you. Are the baitfish flipping? Are squirrels running the bank? What are the birds doing? What about the wind? Where’s the sun?
> Regardless of how fancy your GPS and your sonar units might be, they’re still tools. As an angler you have to find the fish and then catch them. Fishing is not a computer game. It’s real.
> Big screens are worth the money. The difference between a 5″ screen and a 10″ screen is unbelievable. The detail and ease of viewing makes all the difference in the world.
But wait…the more waypoints I have, the more fish I own, right?
Quote of the Day
…it’s probably best to let the bass have a couple weeks in May to work things out without somebody dragging a crankbait through the bed trying to make Mom mad.
– NC writer against fishing for spawning/bedding fish. A crankbait?? Also said:
> More times than not, you’re going to foul-hook a buck bass, a protective male who hangs out around the beds.
Think it all started for that guy after this happened:

We went to #12 Lake Picachos back in January. This article is not an exaggeration. I personally caught 275-300 bass in 3-1/2 days. I’ll bet the average fish was 3+ lbs. I had 6 in 3 days between 5-5-1/2 lbs. I had probably 150 between 3-1/2 & 4-1/2 lbs. spoils you quick, bruises your ribs. One morning, my partner and I caught 73 bass in 60 minutes, all between 2-3/4 & 4-1/2 lbs on 5x & 6x crankbaits. We had a dozen doubles during that time. I had bruises for a week afterwards, but worth it!
