Today’s Top 5

Whopper Plopper welt.

> …got his Whopper Plopper lure stuck in a tree and rather than cutting his braided line he decided to give it everything he had and pulled…. Suddenly the lure came loose like a 103-mph Randy Johnson fastball and smacked him in his left rib cage.

How cool is that?? Proves fishing can be dangerous, but not as dangerous as golf:

Check this skirt flare.

Couple things:

1. Sick!

2. Do you know what your jigs/plastics look like underwater? You do NOT need a pool! Just a little fish tank. Why do it: curiosity, confidence, maybe something other than what you’ve been using looks better.

Btw that’s a BOOYAH Bankroll Jig (juice) with a YUM Craw Chunk (blue fleck).

Pork fried melonius hams o’ the week.

Lookit this off the chain 13.97 (22″ girth, 28.75″ long) caught at the Belton, TX TTT derby by Luke someone:

Randy Rushing caught this 12.6 outta Lake Jeff Davis, MS, beating the previous record of 11.6 set a month ago:

Randy McCurley banged 11.4 lbs of smokin’ ham flippin’ a Brush Hog at a lake he wouldn’t name near Fort Worth, TX:

A Zoom Ol’ Monster was the ticket for Dan Loomis’ 11.3 outta Camanche, CA. Was a post-spawner too:

Here’s a 10.66-lb jughead caught on the Elitist hangout this week: T-Bend. Ross Roper bagged it with a 12″ purple worm, 12-lb Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon, boat in 20′, casting to 10-15′:

> “I was working it downhill. We were out there dragging worms.

> “I made a bomb 45-yard cast across the point and the big one bit as soon as it hit the bottom. I set the hook and it came straight up and jumped.”

4 things with more action than the Flanders rig.

Not denying the Flanders rig catches fish — tho don’t see how you can feel manly fishing that with a wimp stick — but check this:

Bwahahahahaha! Definitely puts the lie to bass having any kind of intelligence. Watching that made me think of a few things that’d have better action like:

1. 1/4 of a grapefruit — More neutral buoyancy and better swimming action.

2. Flash drive — More erratic, stays in the strike zone longer.

3. Sharpie pen — Basically a Senko made out of hard plastic so….

4. Mr. Potato Head — Slower-sinking, customizable tho might not cast as well.

Bucktail prom invite.

Very cool…but maybe some alarm bells for ya there @zpgfishing:

1. She’s doing the asking. Maybe you’re spendin’ too much time thinkin’ ’bout fishing?

2. She doesn’t look happy about doing the asking. Maybe too much time fishing?

3. Maybe there’s things to think about other than fishing? Even Jordan Lee has a girlfriend dude….

HAHAHA! Congrats. Make sure you wear your tourney jersey under your tux…but I’m sure you’re WAY ahead of me there (trailer your boat, night derby after the prom’s over, etc.).

Nice jig tho….

News

1. What it’s like fishing in 40 mph winds…

…on T-Bend. Hilarious vid by the G-Swin:

2. J-Lee’s picks for T-Bend baits.

> …a ChatterBait, a frog, a swimjig and a topwater….

Don’t see any sight-fishing baits in there….

3. Does this mean Roumbanis is fishing a swimbait at TBend?

Yep…but only cuz he always fishes a swimbait:

4. Forgot: Bertrand placed in the Robison derby.

In the charity K9s4Cops derby at Rayburn last weekend, Josh Bertrand’s team was the only Elitist team to place in the top 10. He and a bud finished 4th using a 3/8-oz BPS swimjig (white) with a matching 5″ Berkley Grass Pig swimbait:

5. Chapman’s new Pro vs Joe season started.

Cool idea. Here’s the first new show. Btw the KS B.A.S.S. Nation is auctioning off Chapman’s boat for charity. Deets here.

6. How Johnny Crews takes care of his Sunline (vid).

These guys aren’t just fanatical about sharp hooks….

7. Elites supporting autism awareness this month.

> [Elite] anglers will be ranked by weight in the two Elite Series in April and by how much money they raise or have risen during April, in their name, for Autism.

Very cool. Believe Crews jumped on board from the get-go and is involved again:

> …Crews is again planning on donating $2/lb of bass he catches during the month of April to two charities. He is donating to the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center near his home in Virginia, and to Autism Speaks, a national Autism charity.

8. Is anyone as color-coordinated as FLWer Mike Surman??

Dang:

9. SC: Tidbit from the Wylie BFL winner.

> “The fish were coming off of the beds and suspending under docks to feed on crappie. Most people target those bass when the shad are spawning, but that won’t happen for a week or two. The rest of the field was fishing in pockets and going after bedding fish, but I ended up doing something different.”

Caught ’em on a jig.

10. 3D-printed StutterStep 4.0s still available.

A little pricey but for all you “gotta have it” or “money’s no object” folks, don’t think there’s another 3D-printed bait out there from a major tackle company?

11. Reminder: BassU TV promo extended.

13. IL: Bass-head ketches giant crappie.

Crappie taste good but fight like paper plates. So I never care much about ’em but: A bass-head (Ryan Povolish) caught a 4.55-lb giant (state record) paper plate/mouth while bassin’ on Kinkaid Lake with a bladed jig! A 1/2-oz Strike King Pure Poison with a Rage Craw (gp). Check it:

14. Gitcha some blemished K2 coolers.

Or “kool-uhs” as Cajun Baby calls ’em. You’re just gonna blemish the things anyway so gitcha a sweet deal here.

Doh!

The Mann’s Classic Spinnerbait was used by Hank Parker in his ’89 Classic win, NOT ’79 like I said. Thought that sounded too far back…. Tx for the catch bass peeps!

Tip of the Day

Dave Lefebre tips on fishing spinbaits.

Spinbaits, spybaits, whatever name you like for ’em — one o’ those new wimp-stick deals that actually do catch fish…so I hear. Haven’t tried it myself, mostly cuz I haven’t fished with someone doing it…how I learn. Here’s Dave with some good starter info — he’s usin’ the Storm Arashi Spinbait:

Quote of the Day

If I was given the choice between climbing to 3rd or leading the Classic for 2 days and falling to 3rd, I’d still free-fall to rock bottom again.

Brent Ehrler (“AY-ler” if ya didn’t know) talkin’ in a super-honest post. His time is comin’. Pretty soon he be like:

Shot of the Day

Okay we’ve seen where sometimes fishin’ spots get obscured (Mercer word: obfuscated) in shots, but faces?? Hope this trend doesn’t migrate to ‘merica:
