File this one in the “Dude, NOT cool” category.
Some goofball was fishing off a pier in California when he caught a fish. Okay, sweet. We like catching fish. But then things got ugly.
A nearby pelican decided he would like to make a meal of the goofball’s fish. So, in typical pelican fashion, he swoops in and swipes the tasty morsel. Goofball proceeds to go Cro-Magnon on the poor pelican and stomps on the feathered fish-nabber’s beak, reportedly fracturing the bird’s neck. We’re spending all our time worrying about ducks eating lead sinkers and in the meantime Stompy McBirdbrain is on the loose trampling all things avian.
The good news: apparently, our pelican friend is fine.
The better news: goofball was turned in to the police and got what was coming to him.

Punishment ideas, anyone? Scraping all the pelican turds off the Newport Pier every weekend for the next year sounds just, don’t ya’ think?

They don’t say what kind of fish it was. Maybe it was endangered….
