X-Gamer hooked in arm, KVD pretty serious??, the Bass Panda

Welcome to Jay Kumar's BassBlaster, your daily-ish email about all things bassin'!

Today's Top 3

1. X-Gamer hooked DEEP.

Dang! Halfpipe skier David Wise, here's the story – which ain't a commercial for smarts:

> “I was just hanging out with some friends at  [Nevada’s Wild Horse Reservoir]. I was kinda like, ‘Oh hey, see if you can hit me with your lure.’ I waded way out into the lake. [My friend] was like, ‘Oh yeah, that would be funny. I’ll see if I can hit you.’

> “He hit me with it and it was just like Murphy’s Law, whatever can go wrong will.”

Always wear a helmet kids! Don't think Murphy's at work if both parties try to make it happen….

Hook came out this-a-way: “No hospital, just a sharp knife and a steady handed friend.”

Who was his friend? Not sure, but check this:

Bros?

2. He was pretty serious about catching fish – there wasn’t a lot of small talk.

Guy talkin' 'bout fishin' with KVD. Dude wasn't a bassin' angler, had no idea who KVD was. Also said:

> “They never stop for a break. We were either casting and retrieving or we were doing 70 to the next fishing spot. Even if we were just going a short ways, we’d be going 70 miles an hour to get there."

Welcome to da bigs! Word is this is what the guy thought about bassin' when KVD was done with him:

3. The Bass Panda.

Aka:
> The Man-Squatch and his majestic silver beard
> The mayor of Fishville
> The reason why Waldo is hiding

All are nicknames (descriptions?) bestowed on the one, the only "J.O." aka James Overstreet, the man behind the B.A.S.S. lens, a great dude dude. Names bestowed by Dave Mercer in this recent "A day in the life of James Overstreet" slideshow.

Never realized Mercer was so witty…you know…intentionally….

Tip of the Day

Does fear define you?

From Clark Wendlandt:

> Thinking logically would be every thought you have about a certain body of water like where fish would be, how you would catch them, how the weather would affect them…. To me, it’s the place to start and every fisherman must think this way.

> Intuitive thought is throwing many of your logical thoughts in the garbage and going in a totally different direction. It can be as simple as a bait change or as radical as scrapping everything you did in practice and running 60 miles to a spot you’ve never fished.

> When those little ideas come into your mind during your tournament day, you just have to follow them. It’s what separates the best.

> The thing that gets in our way of following these intuitive thoughts is fear. Truly, it’s the simple fear of failure. Thoughts like, “I caught them really good here in practice” or “last week I had 30 bites on this spot,” or “they have to be on these ledges” are all poison to intuitive thought. It’s hard, even for the most dominant pros.

> In practice you are free. There is no weigh-in at the end of the day. There is no pressure at all.

> To be really great, you have to follow those little voices that say, “move” or “change now.” You have to follow your intuition wherever it leads you, even if it leads you away from what seems logical. There can be some tough tournaments because of it, but overall, the results will not disappoint.
