Way To Go Wisconsin Bassin’-Heads!

Post-signing, L to R: Max Brovarney, Rep. Joel Kleefisch, Dan Brovarney, Gov. Scott Walker, Aaron David.

Wisconsin bass fishermen were offering largies and smallies free boat rides this weekend thanks to a bill legalizing culling that was finally signed into law on Saturday (I believe) by state Gov. Scott Walker.

The bill is a huge, hard-won victory for bass anglers, and should put to rest stupid crap like what happened to Karen Savik last year.

Congrats are due to Wisconsin bassers, particularly the Federation Nation – notably legislative director Dan Brovarney who deserves a beer and a sanity check after lobbying legislators for years – and TBF, as well as BASS HQ.

We should also give a shout out to state Assembly Rep. Joel Kleefisch – the author of the bill and the guy who seems to have taken the bull by the horns – and Gov. Walker, who despite being a politician seems to have at least a little common sense left in him.

Congrats folks!

> On the heels of the culling law, word is that Wisconsin legislators will also soon vote on whether to phase out steam power and top hats….

> Jerry McKinnis hinted that BASS will be stopping by soon: “You can’t imagine how happy all of us here at B.A.S.S. are about being able to come to Wisconsin for events now.”

Well Done. TBF announced at the bill signing that the 2012 TBF Northern Divisonal will be held in Wisconsin!

TBF also announced that they will hold the Combined IOWA/WISCONSIN State High school Championship in Prairie Du Chien this August(2011).

After years of MANY people attending thousands of meetings and belonging to numerous committees and many many other hearings pertaining to the culling issue in Wisconsin, the stars lined up correcting this year to get it done. A HUGE thanks goes to Aaron David. Without him this would never have been completed. Well done Aaron!

FLW also was at the signing and made an important announcement that they will bring a Everstart to Wisconsin in 2012.

Gee, look how SIMPLE that was. THANK YOU WISCONSIN! Go Badgers! Although I had been using his baits purchased at Mississippi River tackle shops, we’d never talked. I finally met Dan Brovarny at the Chicago Bass University this past winter. He was a really nice guy and I enjoyed talking to him. He makes some SWEEEEET “Wisconsin Style” light wire swim jigs (think: Monsoor) that I have been using for a number of years. They are flat out fish catchers, and fantastic for heavily pressured waters. Check them out at Brovarnybaits.com and SUPPORT those that truly SUPPORT your sport.

I tried to practice my right to cull in WI on Sat, but came up short and only got into 5 keepers. Thanks a ton for all those that helped get this bill through. Also a big thanks to Joel Kleefisch for authoring this and having the determination to push so hard for his fellow sportsmen and women.

When I first wrote this bill some colleagues chuckled. I am just thrilled to see all the positive response. It was definitely worth the work. Thank you to the angling community!
