Today’s Top 3

1. Lookit this craw!

With the ICAST fishing biz trade show comin’ up, all kinds of stuff is leaking out. This Yo-Zuri Sashimi Craw caught my eye because…well, look at it!

> The Sashimi Craw is offered with Yo-Zuri’s exclusive patented Sashimi Color-Change Technology and Wave-Motion Vibration.

> The Sashimi Craw sinks slowly like an alert crayfish, then stands in fighting position when at rest on the bottom. When retrieving, it swims away naturally like a retreating crayfish. The internal rattles imitate Crayfish “Clacking” their Claws together.

> The Sashimi Craw is extremely versatile can be fished as a jig or a crankbait.

Huh? Gotta see that thing.

2. I’ve always wanted a swimming pool – I mean [lure] test tank – and it was finally finished last week.

Alton Jones, who didn’t go swimming it but said:

> “I’ve already run a few lures through it. One of my big reasons for wanting it is to study baits, especially some special ones I have that always seem to out-produce others even though they appear identical out of the water.”

Hahaha I totally want a pool to study different Senkos and shakey-head worms…and for my dog..and the kids….

3. BassGold Gold bass caught!

That’s some bassin’ gold, folks, straight from…South Africa! Yep, the ‘Blaster gets around…. Anyhoo, BB reader Wayne said this about this gold-colored bass, which we also occasionally see in the States:

> My father in law Dave Brown caught it on a junebug Big Bite Baits jerk minnow at Inanda Dam (the Dragon Dam), 30 minutes drive outside Durban.

Would love to fish anyplace called the Dragon Dam…. Didja know they also have smallies over there?

News

1. BassGold now has killer maps, nationwide recommendations.

Couple ‘grafs of self-promo, but BassGold really is all that!

> …a new, improved version of its amazing bass patterning app that makes it even better for anglers. It now has the world’s best digital fishing maps, and provides fishing recommendations for any body of water in the U.S. – based on what the country’s top anglers have done to successfully catch fish.

> With the maps, anglers can toggle between Google and Bing satellite imagery, and can add depth contour lines, depth shading and boat ramp locations. The maps – coupled with BassGold’s displays of what has actually worked to catch bass on a particular water body for that time of year – allow anglers to know the most productive areas and techniques before they get to a lake.

Look at this, fellas, it KILLS!

2. Shimano takes show on the road.

> “It’s all part of efforts to interact directly with the anglers who use our rods and reels,” said Bob Mahoney, Shimano marketing manager.

> “We’ll give folks the opportunity to cast a Shimano set-up they may be interested in buying, letting them see and feel how it performans with different lures,” said Shimano’s Marc Mills. “At some of the events we’ll have an area tackle shop and pro staff on site.”

> Following the Skeeter Boats event at Lake Fork, TX starting June 6, the Dockside Demo Crew heads north to the B.A.S.S. Elite Mississippi River Rumble June 20-23 in Lacrosse, WI. It’s then on to I-94, I-90 and I-81 as the crew heads to the B.A.S.S. Elite St. Lawrence River Showdown in Waddington, NY.

Look for this rig!

3. IN: 3-hook A-rigs now okay.

Just in time for prespawn…not! Here’s the pdf with the rule change.

4. TX: Drought making Choke Canton 20′ low.

5. IN/MI: Bass Pro derby June 29.

6. New Doug Hannon app.

Our recently deceased bassin’ bro releases an app. Hope it’s good ‘cuz most bassin’ apps…aren’t.

7. VA: New world record snakehead?

Caught it on a snakey-head. Kidding.

> On Saturday, fishing with a buddy on the Potomac River tributary, Caleb Newton caught what appears to be the fish of a lifetime – a world record northern snakehead.

> If the fish, 36 inches long and weighing in at 17 pounds, 6 ounces, is determined to be a record catch by the International Game Fish Association, it would beat the current hook-and-line record of 17 pounds, 4 ounces, caught in 2004 in Kagawa, Japan.

So now we’re growing world record trash fish. Ya-freakin’-hoo.

8. NY: New record brookie.

> Rick Beauchamp, 22.5″ brookie, May 15, Silver Lake in Hamilton County. Cught it on a Lake Clear Wabbler (spoon) and worm (I’m assuming of the garden variety).

Wabbler…not sure how you come up with that name, sounds like some kind of duck, but it’s kinda good!

Tip of the Day

Denny: Post-spawn flippin’.

> A lot of anglers don’t realize it, but this can be a really good time to flip and pitch for bass. They’ve moved off the beds and are often setting up on isolated pieces of cover along the same path they followed into their beds. It’s a reverse scenario of the spawn.

> Whenever you get high, muddy water, you should be reaching for your flippin’ stick. There’s very little light penetration and the fish will follow the rising water. Flippin’ and pitching isn’t so much about what season of the year we’re in as it is the conditions you’re fishing.

> Regardless of where you find them you can figure they’ll be aggressive. These are fish that have just finished spawning. Their metabolism is high. They want something to eat. That means you should be using heavy sinkers and a Texas-rigged plastic bait with a lot of movement to it.

Quote of the Day

When he`s not around, at least I know where he is.

Wife of recently deceased Okeechobee fishin’ legend Richard Nix. RIP brother!

In that old article, he said: “Whenever I got a day off, I fished the lake. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.”

Amen.
