The Ultimate ‘Jackpotter’

MINE!You roll up to your local ramp with the intention of taking some of your buddies’ greenbacks at the weekly Monday night jackpot tournament when you see a decked-out Nitro Z-9 already in the water. “Who’s this joker?”, you think to yourself. “This guy must think he’s Kevin VanDam or something.” That’s when you see a tall lanky dude down in the bottom of the boat showing his two sons how to tune a Strike King 6 XD. “This guy’s nuts! He even looks like KVD. I’ve heard of Elvis impersonators, but this is just silly.”

It’s only when you ease your boat into the water and slide in next to the Z-9 that you realize your usual nickel-and-dime fruit jar shindig just got a lot more interesting. The lanky “joker” tuning cranks in the bottom of his boat looks up and says: “Hi. How ya’ doin’? I’m Kevin. These are my boys, Jackson and Nicholas. Hope ya’ don’t mind if we give it a go this evenin’.”

According to a recent post on Strike King’s Facebook page, that’s what some unsuspecting anglers in KVD’s neck of the woods experienced a couple weeks ago. What would go through your mind if KVD, or any Elite Series pro, randomly showed up at one of your week-night derbies? Has this ever happened to you?

He came in 4th…so at least three boats now have some serious bragging rights!

    Two things…

1- It’s great to see KVD take the time out an already unbelievably busy schedule to take his boys fishing and to get them some “tourney” experience. It’s not all about winning… it’s more about learning.

2- The guys there should be happy KVD shows his true colors! He just plain loves to fish! They should be proud to compete with/against him and even prouder if and when they beat him.

The truth is… we are all competing with the fish. Some anglers just shut out all the other stuff and focus on the real work: figuring out the fish!

“Careless Tweeter”–Good one Rich. I think I will have to write about your careless tweeting–you wild rebel you…What are you going to do for an encore? Ride an escalator without using the hand rail? The powers that be had better nip your rebel without a cause attitude in the bud before it spirals out of control!

So what other rules do you disagree with and therefore consider it OK to break. Your attitude is one that seems to foster with those who have some success in local events and think everyone, especially tournament directors, should give them special consideration because after all, they are….. WHO? Bo, sorry, you just don’t get it…kind of sad. Tim Allen hit it right on the screws when he zeroed Rich Lindgren for both days. Having been a tournament director, I would have done the same and would have DQ’d Richie’s partners and the Gopher Club team also. There is no room for this.

Wow! I think I would just end up observing him and the kids than fish. That is awesome! He is a true role model for a lot of us. It’s awesome to see him go back to his roots and show his boys how fun tournaments can be.

It happens on a regular basis down here in Texas. We see Elite and Flw tour pros fish little tournaments. You have some people cry about it saying that it is not fair, but there are some of us (me) that really enjoy fishing against those guys.

That is awesome! I think it would be cool to go and fish against them and pick their brain at the same time. I have seen a couple of the FLW pros here in Southern CA which I thought was pretty cool. Why cry about it? It’s true, it really is you against the fish…

How do you attach a photo to this thing? This is a great site that I just found through Bassfan.com!

As long as Kevin signed my Quantum jersey, I’d find a way to forgive him for beating me in a local event…
