T-Bend melon fest, K-Pink talks expenses, Duckett on confidence

T-Bend melon-fest!

Check these DDs from the ol’ Toledo Bend melon patch:

Kacy Fisher with 14.16 sagging LBs o’ water-filled meloniusness. Yet another one caught there C-rigged with a Zoom Baby Brush Hog (waterMELON red):

Steven Smith bagged this 12.05 with one of the craziest bed-fish presentations ever. After trying to flip her in:

> Smith tied on a crawfish 3/4-oz Rat-L-Trap…. “I was dangling the Rat-L-Trap in front of her and she went round and round that bait 20 or 30 times”….

Here’s Chad Soileau with an 11.83 sugar melon he fooled with a Mesu swim-jig (black/blue) with a Zoom Speed Craw trailer (blueberry):

Michael Richard with a 11.54-lb ditch melon he caught on a Zoom Fluke (waterMELON red) and a Gamakatsu hook, after that fish straightened out a different hook the weekend before:

3 more DDs were caught on a Zoom Ol’ Monster worm. Pretty sure T-Bend tackle shops only carry Zoom stuff and Rat-L-Traps….

12.30 FL bloatie.

Gotta run one mo’, a 12.30 Garrett Rocamora caught this’n on Lake Kissimmee, FL with a Gambler EZ Swimmer (junebug) using a Fitzgerald Rods Stunner HD 7’3″ MH:

I know…Gambler and junebug in FL? Never happens….

K-Pink on bidness expenses.
In his latest installment, the one and only Kevin Short talks Elite Series expenses and compares them to payouts. Here’s one to wet your whistle:

Youngest BB reader with DD.

Here’s a DD — a 10.67 caught outta La Perla Ranch in TX — caught by 11-year-old Brooks P. His dad swears Brooks reads every Blaster…which is why the BB is PG yo!

Not sure if Brooks is the youngest BB reader…let me know if any other yung’ns are a-readin’. Tx for reading Brooks!

He caught it on a 1/2-oz Strike King KVD Spinnerbait (sexy shad).

Christie’s crazy flotilla.
That shot’s not even half the boats!

News

1. All Classic competitors’ baits and patterns.

Compiled by me on Bassmaster.com. Worth a read if you plan on fishing tough conditions on upland reservoirs this spring. Here’s me and the champ:

2. Great story from Christie on his bud at the day 3 weigh-in.

THAT is what bassin’s all about.

3. Clunn on Evers’ “will to win.”

4. Ike gets Hobie.

Having a kayak on top of his truck everywhere he goes = smart.

5. Check out Lefebre’s tow van.

Looks a little odd but interesting:

Lots of folks in the bassin’ biz been going to the BassBlaster neon green. Gonna have to think about a change….

6. Z gets Carhartt.

Preview of Z’s show with J-Pow here.

7. FLW gets GoProfessional.

Is Ion still around?

8. MD: No creeks at Potomac Elite??

MD DNR is proposing that the back of Mattawoman and Chicamuxen creeks, and parts of other creeks, be catch and immediate release. Could go into effect in July, and the Elite is in August…not to mention the zillions of other derbies on the Potomac.

> Most anglers (82%) [most were not derby anglers] responded that a catch-and-return area would not harm their fishing experience.

> Most anglers (81%) thought that a catch-and-return area would improve spawning success of adults and could be enforced year-round (53%). [If it’s for the spawn, why year-round?]

Weird that fishes did fine for thousands of years without tons of regs.

Tx to my buddy Vic’s bassin’ club for the tip.

9. TX/ LA: ‘Unbelievable’ flooding on T-Bend.

15-20″ of rain?? Bassmaster HS tourney postponed.

10. TX: New Belton smallie record?

BB reader Brooks D. caught this fish on TX’s Lake Belton, where the smallmouth record is I believe 6.43. Said it was 6.7 to 6.9 on his scale. Nice one mang!

Tip of the Day

> “Confidence is more important than anything else you can have in the boat with you. I’ve heard Kevin VanDam talk about how the No.1 lure in his boat is confidence. If you believe you can catch fish on something, you usually can. That’s why you’ll see me throw so many of my confidence baits.”

> “Even when I’m out fishing for fun, I am always practicing and learning. I’ll start catching fish and end up spending half of the day on the floor of my boat tying on different lures. I want to know everything the fish will eat and why they are eating it.”

> “I sometimes get a feeling that I’m throwing the wrong bait, and I’ll put it down immediately. I want to feel like I’m doing the right thing all the time. If I get that feeling during the first cast, that bait is gone and I move on. I know from experience that when you reach the point where you feel like you don’t have a shot, you’re not going to catch them.”

> “I don’t go down a bank second-guessing myself. I know I have the right bait. I know I have a bait the fish will eat.”

What’s funny about this? Evers posted it!

Shot of the Day

THICK shiner-sniffer caught on a Roman Mother swimbait:

Check that tail — looks like it was in Fork (lol).
