Today's Top 5

1. Snag Proof sold/moved to Cali.

Weird, not like anyone frogs in Cali…heehee:

> The company's ownership has changed hands as Connie Fuller and the Fuller family pass their toad torch to Delta local Nathan Chandler of Toads Only guide service.

> The Chandlers have a longstanding family biz. Calling Fremont, Calif. its home, Henry Plastic Molding was started in the early '70s by Nathan Chandler's grandfather and rated a "World Class" plastic injection molding vender….

> "We're going to make it as common on the deck of every boat as a jig or a dropshot. We want every angler, everywhere to always have one tied on and ready to fish. We will take frog fishing to the next generation."

Here's what Ish thinks about the move:

Here's how the company started – believe it's the original frog.

2. Larry Nixon's brother fishing!

Thought there was only room for one Nixon in Bee Branch, guess not….

> In his first career BFL [on Dardanelle], Leland Nixon of Bee Branch, Ark…finished third….

> “There are three of us Nixon brothers. Larry is the oldest, then there’s Donnie, who works as a fishing guide on Toledo Bend, and I’m the youngest – 13 years younger than Larry.”

> “Dad bought one of the first Rangers ever to come off the production floor in 1969, and Larry started guiding out of it right after Greers Ferry was flooded. When Larry got married and moved to Texas, dad let him take the Ranger with him. He guided for 365 straight days, sent Daddy all the money he made guiding to pay for the boat and Dad bought a new one.”

This is awesome:

> "[All three brothers] still get to fish with each other now and then, and we’re really competitive about it – especially Larry. If you get one up on him out of the back of the boat, you don’t want to brag about it or he’ll back-boat you the rest of the day. You won’t see any more fresh water.”

Hahaha!

3. Stacey King fightin' cancer.

Long-time BASSer, now FLWer – sounds like tonsil cancer:

> "I wish I could fish those last two tournaments (Pickwick and Kentucky lakes in June), but I’m going to be recuperating from surgery or getting ready for other treatments. Tell ’em I wish I could be there – tell ’em I hope they’ll pray for me.”

You got it Stacey.

4. Before fishin' jerseys…

..and even before vests wuz these:

Heck of a long, dangerous zip-down to obey nature's call….

5. KVD's biggest fan??

Well…maybe if'n it wuz a tat:

> "With this hand on the rod, I was able to stick my hand down inside of the gill of the fish, and hoist it up over the bow of the boat."

Tip of the Day

Greg Hackney: The right rod…

…for jigging. Don't know if you saw the article about the 5 different jig combos Hack used when he finished 3rd at Dardanelle, but 3 were Strike King Hack Attack Jigs for fishing heavy cover and 2 were Denny Brauer Structure Jigs for fishing a rock ledge.

Re: the latter, Hack told me this which I thought was innerestin':

> "I didn't want to use a heavy rod to do that since I was casting. It was a little more finesse than what I was doing with the Hack Attack Jig."

> "When you're casting a jig, when you use too big a rod, you have a tendency to fish the jig too fast. So if you use a shorter rod – one that's smaller and a little lighter – you fish a bit slower. And you need to be real slow and thorough, to fish in a slow, methodical way."

> "Plus that jig has a smaller hook and I was using lighter line."

Hey – Hack's shallow crankin' class is now on Bass U TV.

Btw…is Hack expectin'??

Hahaha just kiddin' man!

Hey…take it easy Hack, take it easy. Put the gun down man…said I was just kiddin'….

Quote of the Day

It honestly hurt my feelings to see Gerald lose this event.

Jason Christie on the G-man, who lost by a mere 4 oz. Bummer but G-man's time's a-comin'. Jase also said:

> When I knew that I had more weight than he did, I saw it in his eyes. I understand that feeling.

> The caliber of competitors that have not yet won an Elite event is pretty incredible.
