Rage Tail sounds, Fired for bassin’??, 2nd time in 40

Welcome to Jay Kumar's BassBlaster, your daily-ish email of the best o' bassin'!

Make sure you're followin' Strike King on Faceybook if yer not already!

Today's Top 5

1. What a Rage Tail sounds like.

Too cool. Diggin' the Hook n' Look stuff.

2. IL angler fired for bassin'?

> Travis Loyd said he was forced to resign from his job as deputy director of the IL DNR last week after a report by FOX 32 News in Chicago alleged that Loyd improperly used sick time while competing in FLW Tour events in 2013.

> …Loyd denied any wrongdoing and called his ouster a "political hit." He said nobody from FOX 32 attempted to contact him before its initial report aired.

That's wrong…almost as wrong as this:

3. 2nd in 40 years.

Word is Amistad Open winner Andy Young was only the second Minnesotan IN 40 YEARS to win a Bassmaster tournament. Holy cow – I thought MNers could fish??

He'll also be the second MN guy to fish a Classic. Who was the other guy?

Dig that lid!

4. I'm sitting here watching the Disney Channel right now, just because it's too painful to get up and find the remote.

Cliff Pace talkin' 'bout missin' the 2014 Elite Series too, after his treestand accident. Won't admit he's addicted to Doc McStuffins.

5. I know you can’t believe he was talkative!

Randy Howell's wife Robin talkin' 'bout meetin' her man…who has been known to say a few words….

Cool she has a Bassmaster column.

Tip of the Day

How Ike will fish the Classic.

> Armed with rods rigged with Rapala DT 6’s, 10’s and 14’s, he will quarter-cast the outside edges of grass in 10 to 12 feet.

> “I’m getting that crankbait to bury in the grass a little bit on that edge,” he explains. “And then I’m going to use a snapping motion to rip it free.”

> In addition to Rapala DT series cranks and Rippin’ Rap lipless cranks, Ike will cover water with other “classic, cold-water search baits,” like Rapala’s Husky Jerk and Shad Rap.

> He’ll also throw a Scatter Rap…. He’ll throw it on shallow flats over emergent, one- to two-foot tall grass. “Those fish love to get right in that, right on the top of it,” he says.

> Rather than ripping a Scatter Rap through or out of grass, Ike will reel it over the top, changing his retrieve speed from slow to moderate throughout the retrieve.

Shot of the Day

New Lake Pflugerville, TX record, a 10.2 (26"), caught by 14-yr-old angler. Nice fish, and apparently that lake isn't known for big basses.

Jay was just looking at some posts you have and the one for February 13 of 2014 talks about Minnesotans making the classic and that only one other Minnesota guy has ever made it besides Andy Young. Their have actually been 4 total not counting Derrick Remits who was originally from Minnesota and had just moved before fishing his first one. Rick Pelletier made it through the BASS federation and also Brent Haimes the same way in 2008. Yeah, we Minnesotans do know how to fish!!!
