Today's Top 4

1. McClelland chased wind.

Mike McClelland squeezed by red hot Mark Davis to win the Table Rock Elite this weekend. Mike's pattern deets:

> "I chased the wind. On this clear lake, you always have to look for at least a little ripple."

> …fishing windy, rocky banks close to channel swings in creeks or main-lake pockets. “This time of year, these fish want to be on the biggest, gnarliest rocks."

> He used his signature series stickbaits made by Spro, a McStick 110, mostly in a natural herring color, and a McStick 115 in clear chartreuse for shallower presentations.

> When the water surface became slick, he turned to a 4" paddletail swimbait near docks or over brush…and the original Storm Wiggle Wart….

2. It’s not three strikes you’re out, it’s one strike you’re out.

– Bassmaster AOY leader Mark Davis talkin' 'bout winning AOY, something he's done three times already. He's finished 3rd, 3rd and 2nd on the Elites so far this year. He also finished 20th and 2nd in the final two events of the 2013 Elite Series.

3. Ott has Warts.

Ott DeFoe holds the most popular bait (in one o' the most popular colors) on Table Rock this weekend. Check those bite marks!

Tip of the Day

KVD: Not just water temp.

> It’s natural to assume that seasonal patterns will develop later because of colder water temperatures…but length of the day plays a bigger role than anglers realize.

> I’ve seen [when] the time of year and length of day has moved fish to locations where you wouldn’t dream that they would be given the cold conditions.

> Of course, the moon phase is another huge factor, but if the weather is stable, don’t be surprised if you see bass spawning with water temps in the upper 40s. I’ve seen it.

> Spring also brings a lot of fronts, so those fish will move in and out with each weather change. For example, I remember catching a bass off a bed one day and, even though I released her, I never saw her back on there for a week or more. Then, one day 2 weeks later, there was the same fish sitting on that bed!

> When you have crazy weather patterns in the spring, it’s not uncommon for a bass to move in, drop some eggs, move out and come back later to finish her spawning ritual when conditions improve.

> The point to all of this is you have to keep an open mind in the spring….

Quote of the Day

I’m not concerned with riches and notoriety.

FLWer and awesome dude Mark Rose. Also said:

> "The main thing for me is that I want to win so I can stand up and tell people that Jesus loves them and He always will."

> "Winnings are just a means to get me to the next event so hopefully I can have the opportunity to share my faith again.”
