Today's Top 4

1. Strike King pros.

Strike King's doing a graphic like this for each of its seven Bassmaster Classic anglers – with baits and colors (cool). Here's the latest two, rest are on the Strike King Facebook page.

Mark Davis – Two jigs, and he's a cranker!

Keith Combs  – Check the swimbaits.

KVD and Todd Faircloth will be the last two, tomorrow and Thurs.

Btw, didja catch the Strike King Pro Team Journal show last week? KVD fishing Guntersville with a jerkbait, ketchin' fish like this:

Water viz was around 5', which helped with that jerkbait. And btw there's this:

2. Rapala pros.

Rapala has its own sticks in the Classic derby – Ike, Palaniuk, DeFoe, Tharp – and said a bit about their Classic plans here. Highlights for me:

> Palaniuk: “I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve that I might try when I get there. But we’ll just leave it at that for now.” [He's running to Lake Ontario, hahahaha!]

> Tharp: "I always try to fish to my strengths, and flipping and pitching is obviously one of those strengths."

Here's an 8 Tharp caught in practice:

> DeFoe: "I’ll put a big chunk-style trailer on the back of that to help slow the fall. It’s all about that hang time."

Ike said recently:

> I’m just not dialed in. It’s like I don’t know what’s going on out there.

Uh oh. Sounds like he's gonna have a big derby…seriously. How these things go.

3. Jason Christie's strategy.

> I think, for me, it’s going to have to be about finding the right grass and the right water. By that I mean the greenest grass I can find, and water with medium visibility – not crystal clear, but a good 2 feet.

> Hopefully I can find this scenario somewhere along the route these fish will take to their spawning grounds. I think these fish are really going to be moving during the Classic, so the guy that wins will be the guy that has fish coming to him.

In fact, that's how many Feb Classics have been won – fish coming into an area.

4. KILLER BassGold infographic.

Yeah BassGold's my thing, but I didn't put together this infographic based on what BassGold data shows for Gville in Feb. Very cool…and telling.

Here's a sample, click it for the whole thang:

News

1. Sanders to host HOF dinner.

Bass Fishin' Hall of Fame dinner = triple-A T: Always an awesome time. Tommy's new to the shindig, hopefully he'll be able to limit it to just 12 hours…(heehee!).

2. Klein's push-button Zebco.

"Carry?" Meh. Use? That would be sweet…and nuts!

3. I just wanted to create a fun environment, to get a smile on the face of one of these kids, it’s priceless.

Skeet Reese talkin' 'bout he and other Classic contenders visiting the Children’s of Alabama Hospital. Very cool.

Tip of the Day

Cochran, Zell: How to win this Classic.

Two past Gville Feb winners:

> George Cochran: "If the weather stays like it is and the fishing's good, the guy who wins this week will find a real good area and he'll slow down."

> "In my opinion, it'll be won in the middle of the lower end. It just seems like early in the year the middle of the lake is the best part of the lake."

> Zell Rowland: "There are always fish on that lake that live shallow and they will play part in this year's event…. What will be interesting is those high-water conditions we had back then, they're going to have them this time, and that's going to make a lot of those fish move toward the bank."

> "There's a key to catching those fish there flipping. You need to flip the deepest docks there. Those fish always live on those docks. It's like the fish living on the edge of the river."

Quote of the Day

We found that Allison’s 21-ft Bassport with a 225 outboard got better fuel economy than 18 and 19-ft boats with 150s and 175s.

Elite pro Grant Goldbeck on why he's running an Allison boat and a 225 instead of a 250. Also said:

> "We were astounded to know an Allison bass boat going 70 plus mph can get twice the gas mileage of some 20 to 21 footers."

Allison Boats Bassport does get twice the mileage. I can prove it for you anytime you want. BTW, it also handles better, runs faster, and rides better than any other bass boat you can afford to bring to the ramp.
