Growing the Sport?

A "Bass Hunters" club limit...

Seems like high school and college bass fishing is all the rage at the moment. Really cool to see all the youth getting into the sport at such an early age, and that schools and communities are supporting such efforts. But here’s a recently formed high school “bass fishing” club you probably haven’t read about yet.

They call themselves the “Bass Hunters”, and it seems like they’ve snagged a good limit or two of bass. Actually, I think they went a bit “over the limit” so to speak. Seems this New Berlin, WI club has been angling for bass shaped mailboxes, at least that’s the story according to this JSOnline story.

According to the article,  police “busted up a high school student theft ring that has been snatching bass-shaped mailboxes from residences.” It is unknown exactly how many boxes were stolen, but you can see from the picture that at least 7 of the boxes have been recovered. Seems like the Pop-R boxes were also at risk of being ‘harvested’. No actual motive has been determined yet, but perhaps it’s the angst of disgruntled walleye or pike anglers who don’t have their own fish species as a mailbox. Or maybe some anti-angling activists. I’m guessing the simple answer, just a good ole’ high school teenage prank, will ultimately be the reason. Either way, it looks like the members of the club have made their last “casts” for a little while.

And since the day I left Milwaukee
    Lynchburg and Bordeaux France
Been making the bars lots of big money
    And helping white people dance
I got you in trouble in high school
But college, now that was a ball
You had some of the best times
    You’ll never remember with me
    Alcohol
    Alcohol
