Today's Top 3

1. GA cheaters caught.

Alleged cheaters, but:

> On July 15th, RFC Tim Hutto received a complaint from a US Fish and Wildlife Service Refuge Officer that a subject was involved in buying and selling a trophy bass at Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Lakeland. RFC Hutto began an investigation….

> On July 18th, RFC Tim Hutto and intern Johnathan Day concluded the investigation which resulted in the confiscation of an 11 1/2 pound trophy largemouth bass and the issuance of five separate citations.

> During the investigation RFC Hutto discovered that two subjects caught the bass in Banks Lake on July 12th during a local bass tournament. The two individuals who caught the bass agreed to sell the bass for $250.00 to a two man team fishing in the tournament so that they could use the fish to win the tournament.

What?? Hahaha genius! More, from the eventual winner:

> Since such time, I have received both written & verbal apologizes from one team member. Personally, I have forgiven both guilty parties involved in this situation…however, I will never forget their betrayal to the sport.

Dang straight. Here's the club meeting after the cheaters were caught:

2. ICAST highlights.

ICAST is the name of the fishing tackle trade show, happened all last week in Orlando. Awesome. Few thangs:

> New Strike King baits

> New Rapala baits

> New Storm baits

> Spro Rat wins best hard bait of show – seriously!

I'm sure it works, but I think the secret is when the bass see it they laugh so hard they roll up to the surface and can't swim…hahaha just kiddin' Siemantel!

> Guess I scared JVD?? And do I go the full-Mercer or Bosley Hair Club…be needin' soemthin'….

> Mazurk is a hero!

> Looked for, finally found, the Nichols Lures Ben Parker Magnum PI spoon:

Haha! All for now, more ICASTin' tomorrow.

3. Best of bassin' Instagram…

Tip of the Day

Soft-jerkbait color choice.

> Clear water with great visibility calls for a black and blue Fluke, and dark, low-visibility calls for a pearl color. I have been using both these colors for years and always a one of the two tied on at all times.

> One side note for color is on northern lakes that have herring running during the spring…I always use pearl with…I take a black sharpie marker and draw a line on the top of both sides. In most of these lakes the big bass are keyed in on the passing herring and this small change tricks many of them into think that the fluke is a small dying herring.

Quote of the Day

When I started, the weather was the biggest variable in finding and catching bass.

Ricky Clunn, after bein' honored for being awesome at ICAST. Badly wanted to be there, couldn't make it, bummed. Rick also be sayin':

> "Today it's fishing pressure. We are the number one variable."

That clown on the water is legit. Scares the bass onto the line for sure!
