Today’s Top 3

1. What Fork spotted bass look like.

Spotted bass in Lake Fork, TX? Sorta:

Almost looks like gar markings. One guy said those are “bruises from C-rig sinkers being pulled over her during the Skeeter [owners] tourney” last weekend. Lol.

2. How does a better GPS antenna matter?

Had no idea til I watched this. Jason Christie’s the hottest tour-level pro right now, so listen up. It’s interesting:

3. Diet Mountain Dew Mississippi River Rumble presented by Power-Pole.

You know you’re big time when you read an event name and can’t tell what sport it is!! In my world it’s the upper Mississippi River Elite, but Mercer, Z and Tommy – hope you don’t trip over that one!

Maybe WI should dye the river green in honor of the Dew, like Chicago does (Dew-s?) on St. Patty’s Day. I’m sure that’d go over awesome with the WI DNR folks.

By longtime Bassmaster writer Robert Montgomery, an awesome dude and writer. What’s it about? A clue:

“Many men go fishing their entire lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.”

– Henry David Thoreau

Hold on…it’s not? Is it sunburn? THE magic lure? Jet-skiiers?? Will have to read that one.

6. Book: 101 Bass Fishing Tips.

By bassin’ writer John Neporadny. Another good writer. I’d read it.

7. Dave Wolak hosting new Carolinas show.

8. KY: Floyds Creek regs change.

> The commission proposed increasing the minimum size limit for largemouth and smallmouth bass to 15″ for Floyd’s Fork Creek in Jefferson and Bullitt counties, with a one bass daily creel limit.

9. Duckett Fishing coming out with sub-$100 rod.

Color? Purple.

Haha, nope, white it is.

Tip of the Day

How to choose the right swimbait.

Cali (I think) angler Michael Murphy (not sure if he’s Irish…):

> “The key thing to look for is the amount of plastic between the main part of the body and the tail. The thicker or wider the plastic between the body and the tail, the more it will deaden the action of the bait, and this is how you decide what swimbait to throw throughout the season.”

> “When it comes to selecting the right swimbait for the temperature of water you are fishing, the colder the water the skinnier the swimbait body, the warmer the water the wider the body.”

> “The swimbait gives you much more variety in how you can fish it compared to a crankbait. It’s very much like comparing a swimjig to a Chatterbait – the swimjig can be fished many different ways whereas the Chatterbait is pretty limited. The swimbait is the same way: You can fish it fast, slow, let it sink, fish it on a football head and drag bottom for smallmouth – it’s a very versatile bait.”

Quote of the Day

Set up three rods, one using a shallow spinner, one with a deep diving crankbait, and the last using a plastic worm. Do about 10 casts with each, and then switch to change the presentation.

Gal writing about bassin‘, somethin’ she…well…seems not to know much about.

Okay, so I do 10 casts with each rod, then switch…to what? Nine casts with each??
