FLW co’s gone??, Spotapotamus!, Smallie chokes chicken

Today’s Top 5

Big [question mark] because who knows whether it’ll make a difference. FLW is what it is, B.A.S.S. is what it is, etc. But:

> To help FLW Tour pros build their personal brand identities and sponsor portfolios FLW has cut its exclusive sponsor categories from 31 to 9 for 2015 and will no longer provide FLW sponsor jerseys on the final day of competition. Pros will now wear their own jerseys every day….
> The 2015 field will be capped at 150 boats, down from the 180-boat field…pros not accepted into the field of 150 will have the option to participate in a reserve pool to be called up for the remainder of the season should someone drop out, thus maintaining a consistent field.
No co-anglers??
> In 2015, co-anglers will only compete on the first two days of each FLW Tour qualifier and the Forrest Wood Cup. Then, starting in 2016, the Forrest Wood Cup will be a pro-only event.

What?? The FLW Tour was known as “go co then go pro” – now…?

Later in the article FLW takes a couple shots at B.A.S.S., like:

> [entry fees] far less than the fees charged by other professional circuits that offer smaller payouts (both in absolute and percentage terms). Factor in travel costs, and the expense/reward differential is even more striking.

For some reason that reminds me of this movie scene:

Spotapotamus!

Had to cover it just for that name, but wow:

They’re not corrupted by the money.

– Bwhahahaha! Guy in a New Yawk Times article talkin’ ’bout collegiate anglers gettin’ paid (but not corrupted) vs. the whole NCAA shenanigans about how big-sport athletes can’t get paid…except at FSU of course….

You have popular people, nerdy people, those who are shy and those who are outgoing.

High school bassin’ team gal (awesome, pictured) talkin’ ’bout Elite Series pros…uh, I mean her high school fishin’ team.

Re: Elites, if’n yer wonderin’ who’s nerdy, answer: ALL Elites are fishin’ nerds.

Torn calf muscles??

Check it:
> Mr. Mulcahy had pushed on through the derby despite having torn calf muscles and a sprained ankle – injuries he sustained while fishing. “I fish hard,” he said.
Reminds me of this backstage pass I found in Paul Elias’ garage once:
Hahahahahahaha!

News

Signature rods coming, but not cranking.
Kidding.
Sounds cool…also sounds like what Joe Thomas does.
> Competition will take place in two, one-hour periods, with a break between each period. The two anglers will fish from the same boat, but they will switch boats at halftime. A coin toss will determine which angler’s personal bass boat will be used in the first one-hour period. At the half, anglers will switch boats.
1 year too late for KVD….
…largest of the year. Deets are hilarious:
> …hooked while trolling with wire line 27 feet down near Sharp’s Rock – with a homemade streamer with a junglecock eye with yellow and white bucktail, and “a touch with a my wife’s” black hair. [#weird!] He used a mechanical device that jerked the streamer while trolling….

“Talladega” is from an old Native American word that means “make loud things out of beer.” Look it up if ya don’t believe me!

‘Traps and other goodies.
Ad agency.
Headline got me to read it. Here ’tis – and btw, its Latin name is: Microbrachius dicki. Seriously.

Tip of the Day

Ned Rig = Dookie Rig = Derp Rig. Derp cuz mushroom jig + half a Senko = done:
> Swim, glide and shake: This technique consists of casting your rig out and letting it fall to the bottom before beginning your retrieve. After it hits the bottom, he shakes and reels his rig back to the boat, while trying to keep it 6-12 inches off the bottom.
> Straight swim: Kehde likes to keep his rod tip down with a slow-paced retrieve when he fishes around submerged vegetation and weed beds.
> Drag and shake: …very similar to working a shaky head. “We were watching Shiniki Fukae at an FLW tournament a few years ago, and noticed how much he likes to shake his rod while working finesse plastics. Since that day, we began to shake our rigs much more aggressively and to much success.”
> Drag and deadstick: When the fishing is at its toughest…he simply casts the bait out, lets it settle to the bottom and deadsticks it for 3-5 seconds before dragging the bait a few feet.
> Stroll: When Kehde is trying to cover a large flat or an area where the bass are spread out, he likes to “stroll” his rig. Let the bait settle, then let the trolling motor or wind do the work until the bait is directly behind the boat, when you reel it in and make another cast.
Dude who invented it – Ned Kehde of In-Fish fame – says he fishes it 100% of the time. Srsly.

Quote of the Day

On the second day of the Open, I was running back to the weigh-in and I just stopped and dumped my fish back in the river….

Now former Elite pro Grant Goldbeck talkin‘ ’bout how he’s burnt and done with the Elite Series.

Shot of the Day

Smallie choked a chicken! Anyone else fish with a wig jig??

    Re: Bass Brawls

“Innovative” ? Hardly. Ripping off “Ultimate Match Fishing” is not innovative.

Apparently BASS has gone from “we want to model NASCAR” to “we want to model MMA”…sad.
