Welcome a retailer you've NEVER heard of to the BassBlaster: Tackle Warehouse.

Only dude who has never heard of TW:

Today's Top 5

1. Erie wins St. Clair – again.

St. Clair may have rebounded from its 2013 dismalness, but this weekend's Northern Open was again won on Erie. This time it was Elite angler Chip Padkins (heehee), good dude, who took it home. Fellow Eliter Fletch Shryock got 2nd.

> “Winning this wasn’t about the money [boat + $7K cash] – it was all about getting that Classic berth."

Chip/Chad was fishing Canadian waters and had only 2 hours fishing time each day. Stout gamble #bpstyle

> Pipkens targeted rocky, gravelly corners on reefs scattered along the Canadian shoreline in 8-12 feet.

> Everything came on a Damiki DC300 crankbait in “real shad” color. The lure dove to about 11 feet…with 12-lb Sunline Sniper Fluorocarbon line.

2. Why Fletch didn't win.

Dude lost all his flat brims and had to go round = mojo killer. Bummer dude.

3. 'Nother hookset sack dance.

The Vikes' Brian Robison (a diehard basser and BassBlaster reader btw) was first, and this weekend the Bears' Willie Young Jr. pulled it out. Can't get a good screen cap of it, but I think Zona was the only one to put it up online here.

Here's what Willie's Twitter page (@YoungWill79) has for a descrip:

> Professional Athlete born in Palm Beach county, Florida down to earth who loves to fish and kickin it with the family/friends.

We could all write that! Except, you know, for that first part….

Btw, Zona's Awesome Feesheen Show just topped 100K Facebook Likes = stout.

4. Sign of the Apocalypse?

U TN creates first catfishing club…AND a kid from the bass fishing team switched over. ?????

> "It's going crazy—the growth of it. Anyone can do it and the fish are huge. You just show pictures to people, that's all it takes." [uh…no]

> The club is currently in the process of networking with other universities to establish competitive collegiate-level catfishing. [I'm majoring in chicken livers dad!]

> "We are the first people to come up with this crazy idea that if they've got competitive college bass fishing, why does it have to stop there. Why can't we think about other competitive fishing associations?"

Guess if ESPN shows wiener eatin', anything's possible.

Former TPW (DNR) commissioner gets free trophy bass and turkeys from the agency, and says this:

> We receive no benefit from participating in these programs.

That's right: 7,000 trophy-gene bass and 77 turkeys = no benefit. Bwahahahahaha!

Check it:

Tip of the Day

FLWer Bryan Thrift: Dock walkways.

'Nother good W2F article:

> “I want the first poles—the ones closest to the bank—to have at least 3 or 4 feet of water on them. These steeper banks create more of a shade line later in the day and give both the bass and bluegill an added sense of security.”

> “When it gets to be lunchtime, I’m looking for shaded walkways. Bass can’t put on a good pair of sunglasses when it’s hot and sunny, so any isolated shade from nearby trees is likely to concentrate bass.”

> “Looking for dock-mounted rod holders is an excellent way to locate brushpiles quickly. I’m not necessarily fishing the brush, but the bass that live in it will likely feed under the shallow walkways early in the morning, making them prime targets for a well-placed topwater lure.”

> "…if you find them relating to walkways on sandy beach areas, you can absolutely hammer the bass. You might only get on this pattern a few times each summer, but it’s always worth checking.”

Quote of the Day

Are you going to be stupid or are you going to turn things around?

Paul "Mann up" Elias talkin' to…himself…after a crappy start to the Elite season this year. Paul was the inspiration for this Men in Black character:

Also said:

> "Us older guys, sometimes, we've been to some of these lakes so many times that we get it in our minds how we're going to catch them and that's it," he said. "It's been real important for me because I can easily get off in the wrong direction and [roomie Shaw Grigsby] might say something that straightens me out."
