Can’t Outrun the Cops With a Boat!

Especially if you’re a wee bit tipsy: “Eric A. Willis, age 40, of Avondale, PA, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest, disregarding a police officer’s signal, leaving the scene of a property collision, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, driving at unreasonable speed, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and two counts of failure to signal intention.”

Did we mention he was towing a pontoon boat at the time? Upside down?

A bit more from delmarvanow.com:

> A Pennsylvania man was charged with drunken driving after he hit a parked car with his trailered pontoon boat and then flipped the trailer and boat as he sped from police while dragging the upside down boat and trailer along the road.

> The incident unfolded about 6 p.m. Sunday when police responded to the Holts Landing State Park boat ramp for a domestic argument as Willis was removing his pontoon boat from the water. When a Fish & Wildlife officer arrived in a patrol boat, Willis saw him and took off in his Chevrolet Trailblazer, towing the pontoon boat. The officer notified other officers to pick him up.

> [He burned rubber outta there, flipped the boat and at some point] bailed out of the vehicle and tried to elude the officers converging on the scene.

> [He was caught and] taken to Beebe Hospital to have blood drawn and again physically resisted the officer drawing the blood. Officers had to use a stun gun on Willis….

> “When you get people who behave in an unreasonable way, that puts our officers and the public at risk,” said state Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Sgt. Gregory Rhodes. “Obviously, dragging a boat upside down on the roadway is a safety issue.”

Here's the boat (DE Fish and Wildlife photo).

I laughed so hard that I had tears running down my face after reading this. I could easily see this happening down here in Alabama! I have met some interesting individuals with pontoon boats at ice machines!

Future ad in the Avondale newspaper:

Pontoon boat for sale! Low hours, canopy needs a little work, will include full cooler of beer. Must sell due to being unable to use it due to relocating for a few years.

Sadly, in the state of PA, this guy will probably do NO time for this crime. It’s wont be until his 5th DUI, on a suspended license, AFTER he hits a family of five killing the mother and one twin sister that the law will take notice of this guy.
I think law enforcement is too lax with DUI offenders.

Another ad in the paper may promote Trailer Safety Chains and how they really, really work. No matter how stupid drunk you are.
