Today’s Top 3

1. Funniest Jimmy Houston vid ever?

The most-watched bass fishin’ vid on YouTube is: Bill Dance’s bloopers. ‘Course. But check out this vid. Not bloopers, but darn good!

2. What will Shelbyville fish like?

Well, for starters it’s a lowland reservoir, which means if you’ve never fished it before but you had fished a lowland reservoir no matter where else in the country, you have a starting point. From there, if you’re a BassGold subscriber you could search the tournaments and:

> Macro Factors: About evenly split between “shoreline” and “main lake offshore structure.” But…deeper patterns have been winning more of late.

> Habitat Factors: Wood, as in stumps, laydowns and brushpiles. Dropoffs and ledges are the second-most cited structure.

> Baits: You are 300 percent to 500 percent more likely to win on Shelbyville fishing a jig, even deep. But if the lake is in a solid fall pattern shad-mimicking baits might be the deal.

3. Rated PG: Smartphones can be dangerous….

News

1. Bassmaster Collegians will fish some killer waters.

The Carhartt Bassmaster College Series will be fishing some big-time lakes next year. Like: the Harris Chain, Amistad, Clear Lake, Santee Cooper, upper Mississippi River, Pickwick.

Props to B.A.S.S. and the ACA folks out of Texas for doing great things for college bassin’.

Tip of the Day

KVD: Throw everything.

Is this how he’ll be fishing the Shelbyville All-Star?

> It’s during the early transition from summer to fall that…I’ll fish everything from 2 to 30 feet and will probably have a dozen rods rigged with different lures lying on my Nitro boat deck. [Since when has KVD fished out of a Nitro? Lol.]

> Historically, it’s the end of August and the first couple of weeks of September. But I think it will happen a couple of weeks later because the waters have been so warm and the lake levels so low.

> Find the largest amounts of baitfish, and that’s where the bass will be. Monitor your graph for those large concentrations, or watch for shad flipping on the surface, blue herons standing on points, gulls diving into the water….

> On most lakes, they’re still relating to offshore structure until the water starts to cool. However, instead of holding on the humps and ledges, the fish will be suspended off the edges….

> That’s when power fishing is a must because you have to cover more water to find them…. As you might have guessed, the crankbait is my favorite tool in most situations.

>  [Then he mentions a swimbait, a dropshot, a spoon, a football jig, a spinnerbait, a topwater and even…an umbrella rig.]

Quote of the Day

I think it’s boring, and it’s the least likely thing that you’ll ever see me doing on the water.

Current AOY Brent Chapman on…Carolina-rigging. He also said: “The first time I ever had a chance to win a boat in a tournament, I was Carolina rigging and lost a big fish — one that would have won the tournament. I’ve hated it ever since.”

Shot of the Day

Weirdest self-shot bassin’ photo ever?

That was it. The rest of the fish was cut off.
