Today’s Top 3

1. Ike, Martens, Reese, Swindle in All-Star.

Was it a popularity contest? You bet. And the winnahs of the four fan-vote spots for next week’s Toyota Trucks All-Star Week at Lake Shelbyville, IL are Mike Iaconelli, Aaron Martens, Skeet Reese and G-man Swindle.

Congrats to ’em. They join Toyota Tundra AOY Brent Chapman, defending All-Star champ Ott DeFoe, Terry Scroggins, Todd Faircloth, Randy Howell, Matt Herren, Kevin VanDam and Edwin Evers.

Pretty great field of anglers – 12 guys on a lake, beat 11 for $60K. Nice!

Better enforce that proximity rule…which I couldn’t find in the Elite rules….

2. Didya see me, Zona, Tommy on The Livewell?

Talked about BassGold. If you’re a Serious dang fisherman and have been on the fence about BassGold, listen to what Z has to say about it – he’s right!

3. Ever jig-poled for smallies…

…with a 16′ rod?!

> I selected yellow/chartreuse and black jigs to use. I rigged them about 24-inches below a small pencil bobber.

> “Take this and swing it out so the bobber is drifting in the current about 3 feet away from the rocks on the shoreline,” I said. He took the 16 1/2 foot jigging pole and walked about 50 yards upstream from where we’d parked. Before I could even get myself rigged up, he had a fish on.

Tip of the Day

Brent Chapman: How to fish September.

> My tip for this blog is to find something else to do in September. Spend time with the family or hang tree stands for the upcoming hunting season. That’s what I plan on doing for a while. I say this half-joking – September is a tough month for fishing.

> Fishing is very inconsistent in September, making fish hard to pattern. If you have to fish in September, I suggest changing techniques often. It’s the ultimate junk-fishing time of year. You can catch them doing anything from topwater to drop shotting in 30 feet, so mix it up.

> If you really have to get your fishing fix in and want to catch a lot of fish, go North where the weather is starting to cool down.

Quote of the Day

You love to fish, that’s great but it has become more than that.

Text a basser rec’d from his girlfriend. Classic! Dude also said: I just can’t see myself ever choosing a woman over fishing. Uh-huh. A lot of us said something like that….

Shot of the Day

Okay, I want Dave Mercer’s job for a week. Here’s the latest from his Facebook page:

Had a blast on the water today with my buddy Chicago Blackhawks player Brian Bickell. As you can see he can whoop em on the water and on the ice!

FYI, hockey is a sport they play in Canada, and ice IS water Dave!
