Today’s Top 3

1. Gluszek wins in NY, back in Classic.

Gotta love it when bud wins a big one. Fellow Jerseyan Pete Gluszek led the Cayuga Open wire to wire and won by almost 5 pounds – huge! He had 56-01, and it was his second B.A.S.S. win in 13 years (he won an Invitational at Alabama’s Lake Martin in 1999). He beat Elite pros Steve Browning, James Niggemeyer and good bud Mike Iaconelli, who were all in the Top 10.

Pete fished one bait – a black Senko – two ways: “Early in the morning I was flipping and pitching [isolated] milfoil in 10-16 feet using a black 5″ Yamamoto Senko behind a 1/2-ounce Round Valley tungsten sinker. Later in the day, as the sun came up, lots of bass were moving shallower and I caught them by skipping a weightless black Senko underneath boat docks.”

More pattern deets will be in BassGold soon. Pete runs The Bass University too, and gives bassin’ lessons. Dude knows his stuff!

And how ’bout this crowd at an Open. Pretty great.

2. Lucarelli wins 1K Isles EverStart.

New Hamp-sha stick Joe Lucarelli won the St. Lawrence River EverStart this weekend with 63-13 by consciously not going to Lake Ontario. Instead he fished the river, dropshotting deep rock. He said the current positioned the fish and he was basically calling his shots.

His main bait was an X-Zone Slammer in No. 309 color – green pumpkin/watermelon mix with a blue inlay (below top). He also used a Yamamoto Shad Shape Worm.

Btw, the pic up top is Joe with his dad Steve, who also fished the tourney and ended up 28th.

3. Will your mug be on KVD’s boat?

KVD will be fishing out of a different boat at this weekend’s Oneida Elite. Meaning it will be a Nitro, but wrapped differently.

The wrap “will feature a design of more than 5,629 pictures of Nitro Facebook fans. Nitro Boats held a “Ride With the Pros” contest on their Facebook page that began Feb. 15th and ended June 30th. All you had to do was ‘like’ the Nitro Facebook page and send in a pic.

The pics were then used to create a wrap, which also will be on display at the 2013 Classic in Tulsa. Look for it/you!

Tip of the Day

Got any P70 Pop-Rs?

Wired2Fish’s Terry Brown, a good stick, talks about one of his favorite discontinued baits, pictured here:

> I regularly fish several older lakes in Central Illinois that are nearly void of original structure. To catch the larger fish not conditioned to flipping, I started pre-fishing with larger and louder baits. A Rebel P70 Pop-R has gotten me more bites, bigger fish and its versatility is unmatched.

> The 3.25-inch P70 is a discontinued popper that is about twice the size as many other poppers, skips exceptionally well and has a “blub, blub” like no other bait in the industry. The bait is very durable and is weighted great for a roll cast….

> Many of the big fish I have caught on it hit it still and fishing it as slow as possible is the rule.

> I like to fish this bait in heavy cover, risky business since I have a total of four baits left. I re-tie often and check my line constantly when fishing the P70 in this manner.

> I make it standard practice to look for the Rebel P70 in every tackle shop I enter.

Quote of the Day

Amazing! It’s the biggest thing in fishing. It’s why I started fishing as a professional.
